New York man sentenced to probation after being caught at border with pythons in his pants

quote:

ALBANY, N.Y. — A New York City man who admitted to smuggling three Burmese pythons in his pants through a U.S.-Canadian border crossing was sentenced Wednesday to a year of probation and fined $5,000, federal prosecutors said.

Calvin Bautista, 38, crossed into northern New York with the hidden snakes on a bus from Montreal to New York City on July 15, 2018. The young adult snakes were hidden in the inner thigh of his pants in snake bags tied to the pants' drawstring.

They were discovered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, according to court documents and a release from the office of U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman.

I got charged with the same thing once. But the DA dropped the charges because there was no evidence that I had a python in my pants

This is actually a huge problem these damn pythons are destroying our ecosystem. This piece of shite should've got 10 years in prison.

You have the right to a speedy trial.

Another vague right out forefathers created that has been rendered useless.

The court system shutting down for the better part of 2020 and 2021, then the resulting backlog, was part of it I am sure.

I have no issue with a 10-year sentence here.

If it eats enough it may stretch to a 36 year sentence.
