Any OT Baws here work(ed) in new window sales? Anybody know what the markup is on new windows? I constantly see commercials for 20%-60% off or buy one get one free or some other type of super discounted offer. I've had a few salesmen come out and they hit you with something crazy like...the price is $100,000 but if you buy today it's $60,000 and just because I like you I can get you a special secret discount and the price is $40,000. It's almost comical how all of the salesmen do the same thing and how deeply discounted the original price ends up being.

That’s just throwing money at the window.

Let me get this straight...

You're belly aching about the most common sales tactics known to man (bait and switch, discounting), which are used by companies in virtually every industry?

But the price is only good if you sign today, right?

Asking if anyone knows the markup on the windows because the sales tactic is about as rudimentary as can be.

The man said what he said and didn't mention defenestration.

Yes...but inevitably I get emails and texts weeks/months later saying Hey if you're still interested I can get you that deal.

Given the amount of mailers I get for window replacement, I would guess the profit margins are high.

Given my experience with contractors, I would guess the installers are also high.

No clue but dropped 20k on windows less than a year ago. Lifetime transferable warranty is nice and I like my windows. 20k though, ouch.

I've never dealt with that. When I had Champion windows installed around the house 3 years ago, the sales guy that came out had documentation with price per window type and size that he used to calculate the project price for what I had him quote us. If I had a weird custom shaped window he had a chart based on square inches and number of angles. Extremely straight forward. The only discount he offered was the same thing locally advertised.

Around 50% gross margin on installed windows, I'd wager. I'm not in that exact industry, but rather an adjacent industry.

You are not suppose to share that they made you this offer, that offer isn't for everyone, just you. Now everyone is going to want to get the same deal, you have just ruined it.

Well I didn't take the deal so in zero sum theory it should be available to someone else.

I haven't had to deal with the window people yet, but the gutter people operate in the same manner.
