I’m sure they are well taken care of, that’s why I’m amazed at how many claim to be a veteran.
If he has all of that spending money, why is he wasting most afternoons on the side of the street begging for money.

New panhandling sob story, how low can they go
A decent looking/decently dresses and charismatic black dude who was probably 35-40 stopped me in a parking lot with nobody around late at night the other day. He was seemingly intelligent/normal so I was really surprised when it ended up he was asking for money.

Went out of his way to be like "I live in X neighborhood (some nicer neighborhood)" trying to I guess convince me he's not homeless and is actually stuck in a bad place. Something about needing a car part and only having $20? I don't even remember. But of course it involved a "fiancee" who is still in the car and of course, she's pregnant.

When I said I only carry a credit card, he was like "Can't just get cashback?". I told him I don't think he knows what a credit card is, and walked off.

Sounds like the "my wife is broke down and needs an alternator and it costs $60, I have $40, could you loan me $20 and I'll pay you back scam that I've seen several times, actually fell for it the first time, lol.

Yeah I fell for it once too. Guy even wrote down my email. Never again.

There was a guy asking for change at Chick Fila. Manager told him to take a hike and the guy was pissed. The good Christian customers were giving him money.

Woman working the parking lot at Walmart asking guys walking past her car for $20 for disposable diapers for her child (not with her.)
My husband fell for it.

I asked him if the car had a child seat in it. He hadn't throught to look.

I stopped at a Wiegels in Knoxville filling up with gas. A well dressed black guy walked up to me and told me a story. He was on his way to West Virginia, his wife had been in an accident, and he needed his tank filled. I told him to contact the Salvation Army. He replied, I'm not fooling with that, someone will feel sorry for me if I hang around.

I was in Virginia, at a quick stop, when this white dude came over and told me, If you fill up my car with gas, I will buy you the same amount of groceries on my EBT card.
I said no thanks.

Years ago while I was in college, as I was driving home I saw this guy with the hood up. I stopped and he told his battery was dead and would take him to get it charged. I agreed and then he gave me a dollar and asked if I would take it to the nearest service station and he would stay with his truck.
I agreed, took it to a station, went home and waited an hour, went back, and the service station manager told me the battery was dead. He declined to take the man's dollar. I took the battery back to to the stranded guy, told him the story, and offered to take him back home. He accepted so I drove him home. He asked me to wait until he contacted a family member. I did, and when he came with a beer in his hand and said he no longer needed my help so I left. He didn't even offer me a beer.

Because idiots will give him more. He probably blows most of his money on drugs and alcohol. Never give them money, offer them food/water, etc if so inclined.

I have never given him a dime and I’ve never seen anyone else giving either.

There is a crackhead guy in a wheel chair who hangs in that area who talks shite and is always trying to con someone. I’m going to push him into traffic one day and laugh about it.

I had a guy here in Long Beach recently tell he was collecting money for kids of veterans killed in action. He was also holding a puppy. It was fricking pathetic.

Frick panhandlers. They are popping up everywhere in Lafayette. Just stand there and wave at traffic. I curse the people who stop traffic and give them cash. It’s their fault they keep showing up everywhere.

If that’s true, that’s pretty sad for him.

If not true, that’s a pretty bold move to get money

Or the ex-military lady that had a long thread about her many years ago. I used to see her around the College Drive area all the time.

Maybe he’s tired of Family Fued reruns? They’re always rigged for the black family anyway.

I miss the guys selling the home stereo systems in nice new boxes (accidentally had two of the same delivered, ect.) outside of gas stations along College Drive.

I never fell for it, but pre smart phones I always felt like they were going to get a few suckers every day.
