It’s a layer (and a bit figurative) of its texture. It’s an element in its spirit. It was also what was in my glass when I typed it.

Separating party from New Orleans would be like separating DBs from LSU’s historical roster.

It’s about the AND

It’s not about the OR (don’t puritanize).

Find a way to bolster the “other” important things…is right focus IMO. Keep N LA north of I-10 pls.

I lived uptown next to a surgeon, law professor, etc. My kid and the other kids on the street still couldn’t go play outside and roam the block unsupervised. That ain’t living.

When the feds sent Carlos Marcello away for good. As long as the Little Man was around, there was some semblance of order in NOLA.

The Landriue family brought us current day NOLA. The Morials just kept shoveling shite. The Destroya likely finished off whatever was left worth trying to save.

I agree with the mid 80s.

In the 70s we used to walk the streets of Uptown and the French Quarter at all hours of the day and night and the thought of crime never crossed our minds.

That condition ceased to exist long before Katrina.

That late 80’s into the early 90’s was the worst of the murder and corrupt NOPD. This was during the crack epidemic. New Orleans rebounded quite a bit from 2005 until around 2019 or so and then the LaToya effect started the downhill again.

The INCREDIBLE opportunity NOLA had to reinvent itself after Katrina with all of the federal money is the biggest crime in NOLA history. Just like LA has largely squandered the BP monies.

A simple look at NORD once a nationally recognized gem quickly became a joke.

Ask anyone from New Orleans East. That’s where the flat tire came and city hall didn’t have a spare. It was and is still ashame. When was 1985- 1990 as section 8 was abused and destroyed neighborhoods block by block.
To be fair the same happened to numerous small towns in LA ESPECIALLY south LA after the oil bust and subsequently paper and other mill towns that have dried up.

Where ever HUD and Section 8 goes, NOTHING good grows. The Obama years was on the suburbs chickens are starting to come to roost with all of the new HUD developments in suburbia.

Modern or past degradation?

If the past is an indication, the wheels apparently began slipping off soon after 1885, before "they" began demolishing much of what had been a glorious New Orleans.

Correct. People just don’t understand how devastating HUD has been by spreading the ghetto. Biden literally ran on increasing HUD housing into suburbs and suburban white women still voted for him bc of mean tweets.
