Anyone hearing this could be a thing happening in 2021?

Business associations appear to be anticipating it. Various “stop the poor from paying more” activist groups have been lobbying like hell for it and the mayor is listening

They don’t like that prices in corner and convenience and grocery stores in poor areas of the city are so much higher than in other areas of the city and Louisiana.

Anyone hearing this?

We all know why corner stores in the city, many run by blacks and immigrants, have to charge a little higher. Stop doing that certain thing, and the prices will fall

Things cost more in the poor areas? I feel like I usually am buying cheap shite when I'm in those areas heading to job sites

Maybe people should stop stealing so much from them so they don't have charge more to cover the theft.

If this legislation passes, expect those stores to close almost immediately.

Prices are higher in part because of loss prevention issues.

Don’t want to pay so much? Go somewhere else or tell Pooky to stop stealing shite.

Finally a sound governmental policy is offered and you people sneer at it with your filthy contempt and heartless attitudes.

Convenience stores are some of the nastiest, most vile places on Earth. They have their own little culture and it's weird.

Who is going to pay for this? Taxpayers I presume? You can't just go tell a business they have to charge less for certain products. Maybe that's their price point to make a profit due to a number of factors.

And they wonder why there are food deserts.

Yet another example of government “fixing” a problem. Get ready to see shite like this on a national scale soon.

Legally there are price gouging laws in the state but that is more of “you can’t charge more than X per hotel room” rather than “A coke must be $0.70 for a 12oz can.”

Trying this is going to backfire horribly in part because the city is already bleeding business badly.

Its not just theft.

A large grocery chain can survive on a lower profit margin because of volume

Small store cant do that

I dont get this about new olreans. You can have a 4 bedroom brand new house rt next to one that hasnt been fixed since katrina.

Poor and rich people live on the same damn streets here.

Im not any closer to the stores as someone living completely off the government.

Sure but I doubt these fall under price gouging laws. There's a little arab owned convenience store near my neighborhood that's 25-30% more on everything than the Racetrac down the street. But sometimes I'm willing to pay it because there's never a line and it's closer.

Activists in North B.R. had been advocating, for years, for a major grocery store to open in that area. One of the major block stores finally opened there 5 yrs ago. Right in the middle of the area pushed by the activists. Five years later it closed its doors, claiming major loss control issues in the store (theft) and criminal crime activity around the store, primarily in & around the parking lots. In the last 3 yrs of operation, store management claimed to have had to replace 90% of the lights in & around the parking lot.
