Why waste time at a steakhouse. You can get that anywhere.

Parasols is doing fine.

They are on the opposite end on Toya's mandates as well.

New Orleans chop house used to be my favorite

Haven’t been in few years now and have no desire to go back to that dump of city

I don't go into the city enough to recommend too many good places, but when you're at the WWII museum check out American Sector for lunch, and Annunciation isn't too far away and is really good for dinner.

Also, make sure all your people are either vaxed or have the negative PCR test (will probably need to get a 2nd test while in town as well). Still a lot of places are checking and would suck to have to change plans last minute because someone doesn't have one

Thank y’all for the suggestions. We are going for my wife’s work. I will have some free time to get out and explore.

The reason for the steakhouse ask is that we are both unfamiliar with the cuisine from the area and we know what to order when at a steakhouse. I’m more adventurous than she is. That’s why I asked for the casual eateries for lunch. I like to try new things. She will be busy and I’m free to go where I choose.
Thanks again.

Crescent City steak house is great. Its one of the first in the city and oldest. Decent prices but still a nice steak dinner. It isn't super flashy like Desi Vegas or Dickie Brennans, but they have great steaks and a parking lot.

I would bring some duct tape and a piece of visqueen for the ride home with that shattered window.

Drive down to Chalmette and go to the battlefield national park.
I think as we get older, the impact of some of the battles means more to us.

Lunch at Rocky and Carlos'. The mac and cheese if you've never had it before and any of their poboys.

Ferry across the river and go down to the star fort for an afternoon in history (mosquito repellent is your friend) or after the ferry go west to the national park and walk some of the paths through the swamps.

i'm finding most bars, restaurant, and coffee shops in that area are flouting the mandates to varying degrees, with a few notable exceptions

It's not like this is another country. The food will be familiar enough whatever restaurant you choose.

You could go out to City Park if the weather is nice. There is a nice sculpture garden behind the Museum of Art. There is also a Cafe Du Mond so you can avoid the downtown crowds if you want to try it.

For the most part, our food isn't anything most would consider "too weird" to eat. At least not what's in restaurants. If you're both unfamiliar with Louisiana cuisine, I would argue that's an even bigger reason not to go to a steakhouse. Do a nice dinner at Brigtsen's or GW Fins or something. Something with a beautiful representation of seafood.

That said, I think Doris Metropolitan is the best overall steak restaurant in the city. It is high end, and will make her happy if she's a gal who likes that sort of atmosphere. And you can get as adventurous, or stay as safe, as you want.

For you - Since you're not from here, I would definitely recommend Cochon for lunch when you're wandering around.
