The one thing I want Trump to do more than anything is to get rid of the USPS
I don’t know about where you live, but in New Orleans, we have the worst mail service in the country.
I regularly go a week to 10 days without receiving mail.
And God forbid if you actually have to go to the post office to pick anything up or mail anything.
The USPS needs to be abolished yesterday and we need a private service nationally. I don’t care how much more it will cost. It’s needed more than anything.
Every postal employee needs to lose their job, especially in the New Orleans area.

Excuses, excuses!
Recent reports indicate that some residents in the New Orleans area have experienced USPS delivery delays, particularly after packages reach the New Orleans distribution center, with some packages even never leaving. However, as of March 26, 2025, no major service disruptions are currently reported in Louisiana.
Here's a more detailed look at the situation:
Recent Delays:
Some users on Reddit have reported experiencing delays after packages arrive at the New Orleans distribution center.
One user mentioned packages sitting for days at the center, with one package never leaving.
These delays have been noted since January 1st, with some packages experiencing major delays.
Possible Causes:
Some users speculate that the delays may be related to changes implemented by the Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, aimed at increasing efficiency, but potentially causing issues.
Other factors that can cause delays include traffic, staffing fluctuations, severe weather, natural disasters, and changes in carrier routes.
USPS Response:
USPS officials state they are committed to providing the best service possible and consider the safety of employees and customers a top priority.
They are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to update customers until the situation returns to normal.
How to Stay Informed:
You can check for service alerts and updates on the USPS Service Alerts page: LINK
You can also call the USPS customer service center at 1-800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777).
Current Status:
As of March 26, 2025, there are no reported disruptions in Louisiana.
However, it's always a good idea to check for service alerts before mailing or shipping items.
I went to a NOLA post office branch last Friday and encountered one of the most worthless employees I’ve ever seen before in my life. I told her to just forget it and I went to another branch by Wrong Iron and was able to get some assistance. A majority of these people are BUMS and deserve to lose their cushy, government jobs.

mailed a package priority mail in Jackson on Feb. 18. Finally arrived in Atl on March 20.

While I agree with your assessment that UPS has some value due to subsidies from other U.S. shipping companies, I suspect (due to politics) you’d also criticize any suggestion to defund or even audit other taxpayer-funded organizations like NPR, SNAP, or—even Social Security—which everyone knows are rife with corruption or, at the very least, are an inefficient use of taxpayer dollars.

What a stupid way to word/phrase what you're trying to say.

I jokingly refer to the main hub on Loyola as a black hole. I'd say 50-60% of the certified mail we send makes it there and disappears. I'm convinced someone is just throwing it away. I'd love to be able to visit the "sort" one day to see what goes on.
It's actually impressive.

It's actually impressive.

Does Fed Ex and UPS work in well in the area? Are you aware that neither could function at all without the USPS? They may could, they have never made an effort to do so because the USPS is MORE EFFICIENT at delivering packages than any other delivery service on the planet. They are so efficient that UPS and Fed Ex can pay the USPS to deliver packages and mark the service up to Fed Ex and UPS customers and make a pile of money doing so.....

I would say that number is probably overstated by several hundred %.....

This. DOGE em, privatize em, or outsource em to UPS, FedEx, and Amazon.
ETA: I lost the rest of my patience with them when they had a package "In Transit" for a month and the "find my package" showed it at my local post office (It wasnt). I went to go try and track it down and the rude AF ignorant "post master" told me I wasn't allowed to pick it up from them and I had to keep being patient until they delivered it.

Many of us here have businesses where we ship and receive a ton of packages. We have too much experience with all the shipping services.
Every one has problems but FED EX and UPS are the most effective daily advertisements against privatizing USPS. They offer ALL the problems of USPS (and more) at usually double the cost and that's with them saving money by piggybacking on USPS for certain things.
Also, since I ship so much I actually talk to the local postmasters on occasion about issues. Many of the current USPS problems are actually direct decisions from the current USPS leadership:
Just for example:
1. I complained about how inconvenient the inconsistent scanning is to the local Postmaster. He told me they have around 20 sorters and deliverers on average but they now only have two working scanners and can't get more due to recent budget cuts. So boxes either have to wait extra days before the workers that have scanners can get to them or just pass through unscanned.
2. Also, during a time when population has doubled in my zip code and internet orders are skyrocketing, they were forced to close a larger sorting / distribution center and move the entire operation into the back of the small local post office.

This has been my experience. Given that USPS does about half the work that Fed Ex and UPS gets paid for the USPS is either responsible for at least half the good customer service at Fed Ex and UPS or half the bad service....because neither has ever existed and its questionable if they ever could in the absence of the USPS.

Really, there's hardly anything the federal government could realistically do that would hurt my small business more than shutting down USPS.
It's probably less of a concern for mega chains that can sweetheart negotiate deals with FED EX or UPS but real small businesses are the ones that already absorb the costs of those (along with consumers that also hurt sales).
Shutting down USPS would be Great for Amazon but horrible for so many small businesses.
So, it's probably high on the agenda.
Because that's what politics are about -- negativity campaigns that result in changes which help the wealthiest investors at the expense of small businesses and everyday folks.

Damn.....a voice of reason on TDs. Miracles never cease....
You are spot on. There is no doubt there is room for improvement at the post office....I hate having to go to the post office....but all things considered it functions at a pretty high level.
