And then use the same crappy logic on the old airport ramps to I-10. Just worry about traffic headed to and from the city, frick anyone headed west through a two lights and divergent diamond intersection.

MSY wasn't going to wait for the state to do their part.

They'd wait 50 years and never have anything done.

In retrospect, forcing the states hand was the right choice.

Recent runway/access road upgrades with similar costs.

I’m not questioning the cost of the runway upgrade.
I’m questioning why does a 5-7 mile road (if that long) cost 85 million dollars.
Looking through articles from the airport list you shared, I did see a planned or ongoing upgrade at Philadelphia’s airport for 16 million dollars.
Seems like it’s shite ton of many for a road.

still is, it’s in Jefferson Parish, not NOLA!
Agree though that the building is very well done. Only one in US comparable is the new terminal in SFO.
However, the major SNAFU is the location of the rental car center and the stupid shuttle. Need an elevated tram or something from terminal to rental car center.
More direct flights in and out of MSY is a good thing. Maybe some additional international routes in planning

I’ve probably flown out of the new MSY a hundred times. I park in short term garage, walk to the terminal, check in and off to TSA.

It is one of the nicest and easiest airport experiences I’ve had.

But I don’t use the rental cars, departure/arrival lanes, or even the other parking options so I can’t speak for those.

how the frick does it cost 85 million for a road to support transit buses?

Because the runways already exist and the roads dont?

You probably have a vision of a substandard Louisiana road and not a federally compliant road built to handle autonomous travel.

We should probably let the shuttles just cut across the runway.

I'm cool with this. The MSY is surprisingly one of the best run airports in the country. Never had a problem with it.

Only thing wrong, like someone mentioned before, is the rental car situation. It's not a problem for me specifically but how they don't have that at least close to the airport is odd.

Gobs of money has been spent on MSY ever since it was created ! It’s kinda like the Causeway , once a commission is created, it’s takes a life of its on and spends money for eternity .

It is pretty common to have rental car locations somewhere else on the property or just off the property.

The counters may be in the terminal but the cars usually aren't.

Someone mentioned sky harbor. You have to take a shuttle to that rental center as well.

Pipe dreams.

State of Louisiana should not waste a fricking dime on this.

Cleanliness is OK, but has fallen off dramatically since it opened, but to be fair, it has improved recently.

Parking, what there is of it, leaves a lot ( haha) to be desired, but the app has helped.

Also, the food service. MSY has to have the only CFA in the world where you have to routinely wait 10+ minutes for your order.

Can we get regular direct flights to the major cities on east coast, west coast and Europe?

I’m tired of flying through Atlanta, Dallas and Houston.

I support it as long as whoever was in charge of building the current terminal is in charge of it again. I fly a lot and MSY is my favorite airport. Its very rare to see something so well run in New Orleans.

I was initially very skeptical due to the I-10 flyover fiasco and the fact that, having flown into the new airport within the first week of opening, there was a lot of kinks being worked out... But, it does appear they've worked them out for the most part, and I do genuinely enjoy the place.

The east concourse (future concourse D) is probably pretty close to getting the trigger pulled. They also need to get that 3rd garage going too. The green & orange concourses probably never get built or not anytime in the next 20 years.

The change to the diamond intersection at Loyola is actually pretty damn good. Moves way faster than before.

Yes should have an overpass, but I think it rolls pretty damn smooth.

Still terrible as of Jan 2026.

I never checked bags when I was flying for business, but vacation flying is different.

I have honestly have never waited for bags as long as I have waited at MSY.

How can the state and MSY plan an airport and already have to change up things.

The phased expansion plans were already a thing on paper before they ever turned dirt on the new terminal. You’re just hearing about them now that they’re moving forward.
