Just curious, but what are your credentials for deciding what is critical?
I am undefeated and untied at Sonic!!!
Seriously, It’s common sense, we have major issues on Hwy. 1, in EBR, in 10 bridge in Lake Charles and we read about those problems on a regular basis.
So now Orleans is set to open a terminal without the interchange. If they can do that why is it critical to build the new interchange in lieu of one of the bridges that have been deemed deficient?
And if it’s so important to the local economy, why don’t locals build it? Others do.

I don't think you know what you are talking about.

How naive can you be??? What planet to you live on? Do you think ticket prices will not be impacted if coming to New Orleans cost the airlines more???

The public is not paying $1 billion for the airport. Stop saying that. It is financed through a variety of means. Airliners pay the biggest chunk by far.
The flying public and to a lesser extent the taxpayers are paying for everything.

The airport property, which is actually part of the city of New Orleans, actually ends before the interstate. So the city does not have jurisdiction (is that the right word?). It's up to the state and Kenner.
Jefferson Parish, and Kenner benefit or not?
If they don’t then they wouldn’t fund it.
Orleans should have lined everyone up fifteen years ago to do this deal, but they elected to do it all by themselves it seems.
If they can finance a 1.3 Billion dollar Expansion what’s another 100 million dollars for infrastructure?

They better start breaking ground on the "new new" terminal since the "new" will be old by the time it opens.

Nothing any of you have posted will convince me it was worthwhile spending particularly when one considers the alternatives that were available.
You are a cheapskate and have no real idea of the costs involved in renovation. That's ok. You are nothing if not consistent.

So, they decided to build a billion+ dollar structure, used by 7-8 million people per year, before they definitively determined that there was a way to actually GET PEOPLE TO IT, and that's all cool because that minor detail is simply "out of their jurisdiction."
Weeeeeeee!!!

I'm starting to think on this issue, this is more of you loving BR and hating NOLA, than anything else.
MSY is an airport that draws travelers throughout the region including from BR. Plenty of BR people will benefit from this.

Again, you are comparing a local hospital to a regional draw airport.

I have always felt that a toll could have worked here. While I maintain this is the state's responsibility, I would not have cared if the flyover ramp / connection was tolled.
But most people around here flip out when someone mention tolls.

Should they have waited for the state to find the money for the connection ramps? You've seen how our state operates, right? They don't plan things, they wait until the shite is an emergency, and then find the money.
If they didn't build the airport and waited on the state until they did, they would be waiting 50 years from now.
Building the airport put pressure on the state to figure it out.
Again, I would have supported a toll option here, but I think I would be in minority

It's not like the public is doing without the services today.
I suspect the service level will not improve with this massive investment. None of you can articulate any service improvements that justify the capital investment let alone justify the investment when considering every single thing mentioned in this thread could have been accomplished in the existing terminal.
The issue is yours to own. I know you are proud of the progress of spending and implementation thus far.
