I grew up on the east coast less than 4 hours away and I have family who lives there, visiting frequently. It's overblown. It's crowded, expensive beyond any other place in america, not particularly interesting outside of broadway. The experience is just something I could get at many other cities.

Hey now I have always enjoyed visiting New Orleans. When people find out I'm from LA, many of them sing praises of the times they have visited NOLA and how they would love to visit again soon. 
Never once have I heard "I can't wait to go back and visit BR!" if someone I meet has been to BR before.
It is the only city in LA that I would actually spend $$ to visit for fun and not because I have to visit family. Take that as a huge compliment coming from me
New Orleans is also the only city my husband has really enjoyed visiting in LA. He would gladly come with me to visit it again. His commentary of BR was pretty much summed up as "And why did you wait 27 years to move away from there?"
