Great point! Also, what happens when the lazy, gimme gimme, unmotivated, segment of the population is majority and can vote.
A truly qualified person that could make substantial changes would never get voted in. Considering the fact, steps needed to correct the problems would not serve the masses mentioned above.

Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of good, self-reliant folks in NOLA and the suburbs. It’s just somewhere over the last 20-30 years the shift has leaned the way of the entitlement folks.

Sounds like she's treating the budget like her taxes

Despite all of the hyperbole in this thread, City was actually on a positive trajectory financially:
MOODY's Increases Credit rating (Sept 2019)

According to Moody’s, this stable outlook reflects expectation that the growing economy and tax base and management’s willingness to maintain adequate reserve levels and balanced operations, despite budgetary challenges, such as high fixed costs and public safety and infrastructure needs, will allow the city’s credit profile to remain stabl

Glad she’s learning a lesson on what happens when people don’t pay taxes.

New Orleans is a GREAT city. It's why a MILLION people were on the streets for Mardi Gras. It's why NOLA gets over 10 million visitors a year. It's money the state relies on. The notion that New Orleans is a "shi*hole" and such is downright B.S. Metro NOLA is over a million people that enjoy every aspect. Hard working, tax paying people for the MOST part. A very alive and active city. Tens of thousands of people out at resaurants, bars, etc... We don't RELY on the idiots at city hall. We don't rely on handouts. Most of us are self sufficient like most Americans. We have a way of living and a flavor and it's ALL good. We pay taxes and work hard. I've lived here over 60 years and have NEVER been unemployed or lazy. You can go into any community and pick out a bunch of losers to point at but you people are ridiculous. You have NO CLUE. You never received the education at a good Catholic school like those of us in New Orleans. You probably attended a public school. NO - there is no such thing as a good public school - ANYWHERE. You're classless and dumb. Get a life wherever you are. That is if life has a heartbeat in your location. LOSERS

Fortunately for the citizens of New Orleans, Cantrell’s training, education, and background have uniquely prepared her to face this crisis.

Sums up the problem nicely.

the lack of income from taxes could cut $100 million from the city's operating budget.

It's not funny even though I did laugh but that statement is probably pretty close to being on point in reality.
