In reply to the original writer, I think Mardi Gras is an expression of the culture and not a determining factor. It’s a result; not a cause. That can be at times, good or bad. We’ve been celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans for 300 years; since Louis XIV. We’ve had a laissez faire attitude about government and corruption since then, as well. As long as the corruption didn’t really interfere with daily life, so be it. Maybe I’ll get some soon. That culture exists to this day. But Mardi Gras isn’t the reason. It’s a result. Frankly, a good result. One of the few times that ethnic differences are minimized (Saints games being the other).

NO... A couple of people did some incredibly stupid and ill advised stuff and died as a result. That’s what happened, and people doing dumb stuff happens regularly. It doesn’t take Mardi Gras to bring it out in them.
I’m no Mardi Gras fan. It has about as much appeal to me as nothing, but let’s be honest here. It’s not Mardi Gras that’s the problem. It’s some of the bone head idiots that frequent Mardi Gras parades that’s the problem. If only Mardi Gras was the problem in society, and us getting rid of it would get rid of that which ails us, yet you can be certain of one thing, and that’s that the killings will continue in New Orleans, and maybe not for plastic beads, but certainly for equally dumb shite.
