Buying a home does not garuntee fabulous neighbors. There are plenty of shitty neighbors out there with or without renting out their home.
I never said it did. And being a shitty neighbor comes in many forms. Buying a place simply to rent it short term is one of those forms.

So now the neighbor’s peace and quiet is gone because of loud, obnoxious, drunk tourists in town to party for the weekend.
See what I would do is make a new ordinance that keeps loud people, air BnBer’s or not, from fricking with their neighbors. Then when people were loud and it bothers the neighbors the police get called and they tell the people to be quiet or go to jail. I would call this new law Disturbing the Peace. I bet something like that would work.

Democrats love them some regulation and increased control over its citizenry. It's private property assholes.

That’s a brilliant idea. But how do you propose to enforce it with an under staffed, under trained, over worked, under paid police force?

How is it really shitty?
Because you’re buying/living in a home in a residential neighborhood not a fricking condo community in a tourist town like Gulf Shores.
If you buy a condo at the Pheonix West and plan to make that your home then you’re well aware that 90% of your neighbors are going to be renters.
Not the case in Nola and air bnb.

You are assuming the cops would show in a reasonable time

Well yeah. But that's not always the case. If my neighbor sells and the new buyer does this, there's nothing I could've done about it.

What if somebody buys the house next to you and turns it into a short term rental

Well, it gets tricky when it's being used for commercial purposes.

Whoa. Hold on a second. You can’t boast how New Orleans is a tourism Mecca one second then turn around and make a statement like this whenever it’s convenient.

Sure you can. Gulf shores has a population of 11k yet all the condos and rental houses add up to far more than that. It's a straight tourist town.

Yes New Orleans is a tourist destination, not denying that, however, I’m against having the tourist take over the residential areas. Let them have Downtown. That’s all they know and come here for anyway.

But doesn’t this proposal only apply to the FQ and areas immediately surrounding it? That’s what I gathered from the OP but may have misunderstood.

I don’t know.
If your parents wouldn’t have sold their house in the FQ, they would be able to tell you

Good luck. NOPD response time already sucks and disturbing the peace calls probably aren’t high on the priority list when they’re getting calls for burglaries, thefts, assaults, and shootings. You’d be waiting for hours most of the time for NOPD to respond to a DTP call about some loud drunks next door.

Not in commercial zones though.

Buying a home in a residential zone should guarantee the neighbors don't use their house strictly for commercial purposes.
I like airbnb and use it myself.
I'm not gonna sit here and lie and say it has no negative effects on a neighborhood.
