The Hurricane strength winds have taken down the New Orleans International Airport and it is currently without power! Stay safe!

Airport Officials a few hours ago says the Airport will stay open UNLESS weather conditions become unsafe or infrastructure is damaged! ROTFLMAO

PS I did not mention this (forgot) because of the Power Failure at the Airport planes are sitting on the tarmac but can't move because there is no back-up power!

Why are the planes stuck there?

The planes there should be able to leave regardless of the airport's power issue.

My brother is stuck in the parking garage elevator in a wheelchair. He's not happy.

Planes that I’ve already boarded and have their paperwork and the jet bridge pulled back can depart…Anything arriving or not yet off the gate would be stuck

Runway lights aren't needed and I am willing to bet the tower has a backup generator.

Even if they don't, there are procedures for uncontrolled field departures/arrivals.

I doubt the airlines will let the planes sit there too much longer.

Link? FAA towers are on backup power separate from airport.

Its daytime. And I’m sure the tower has a walkie talkie or something on standby
