These, in my opinion, are the three quintessential Southern towns (sorry Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis).

Which do you like or prefer and why?

This feels like one of those "which one of these does not belong" games

Saddest part of those three is that New Orleans to me has the greatest history of them all in American history but due to its current state falls to number 3. The reason the current mayor and the riff raff found throughout the city.

1) Charleston
2) Savannah
3) Nola

This should be filled with great responses...

I've lived in one and have visited the others a fair amount. So, without further ado...

-New Orleans is easily the most unique and "interesting" of the three (this could be construed as a negative for some).

-Savannah and Charleston, as a whole, are prettier than New Orleans - personal preference to Savannah due to the abundance of public squares and parks throughout the city.

-New Orleans has always been more of an important city to the United States than the other two.

-New Orleans offers more history, art, music, food, and culture than the other two. The other two offer some good food, but it isn't as good as New Orleans and they don't come close to music, art, festivals, and so forth.

-Charleston is the safest of the three. New Orleans, obviously, is the most dangerous, but Savannah has some crime-ridden areas.

Nola

Best food, music, history and architecture combo in the U.S.

The OT hillbillies certainly love crapping on Nola right now because of statues. Nobody here really gives a shite about that, other than acknowledging/lamenting that Mitch is a jackass to pull them down. Also, it's far safer today than it used to be, only difference is now there are cameras.

Charleston and Savannah are livable cities for white people. In fact, they're beautiful cities.

Move your lily-white family to NO and let me know how that works out for you. And it's a dump.

I know this is going to turn into a bash Nola thread, but sometimes I wonder if some of you have ever even visited.

you suggesting someone visit because it will change their mind on the place being a dump

I've been multiple times. It's like a 3rd world country. You have locals starting 20-page threads on the OT urging people not to visit for their own safety.

I feel sorry for you and the life you live if you think that place isn't a shithole

If we're talking about the touristy areas only, Charleston and Savannah are kind sorta similar. New Orleans is far more popular as a tourist destination and the vibe is different as well.

If you go out to where people actually live, the three cities are very different from each other. Charleston can be pretty decent, but Savannah isn't all that and let's not even talk about NO.

Solo has his head in the sand baw.

NOLA, in theory, would be the best of the southern cities. It has all the right ingredients to make it great. But in reality the city is a dumpster fire.

Ok no issues here since it's a matter of preference.

As far as Charleston is concerned I agree. I've been to Savannah many times, but I'm not as familiar with the areas passed Forsyth Park.

My post was laughing at the notion that a white family cant live in New Orleans. It's ridiculous. I'm not even going to debate you about it.

Sure Nola's been a mess lately, but you have no idea what you're talking about. All you see is the numbers in crime. There's plenty of nice places for white people (OMG IM WHITE AND ALIVE!!!) to live.

The only way this white family would live in the city is if I had armed bodyguards to take my kids to school and my wife shopping. Not even exaggerating.

"ignore the statistics and news reports and first-hand experiences because it's got small pockets that are nice"

This is the messaging that places like Cape Town use to describe their cities. I honestly feel sorry for you people
