How long until it "accidentally" ends up in the Gulf?

I know a company that did drone inspection services. They launched a 100k drone from a platform and it never came back. It ended up in the water.

I would have hated to be in his shoes calling the boss.

Employee: You’ll never know what just happened...it took off and went straight into the water.

Boss: What...go find it!

Employee: I don’t see it any more it sunk.

Boss: Go find it or it’s your arse!

Employee: Okay...anyone have a submersible drone to find this other drone.

Give it time. And yes, operators are screwed.

Ehh, BP has been automating the shite out of their production facilities for years now. At this point, their deck operators are basically just there to train for the control room and write permits for service hands.

I love their response of spot is just looking for safety issues.

Yeah for now!

Once they can have a 24 hour robot doing work and not being paid, of freaking course they will start replacing people

Experienced oil workers get assigned immediately to the fryer without having to work their way up from dishwasher.

Some oilfield workers are hot oil specialists.

Almost everyone is screwed.

People talk about racism and climate change as being existential crises, but rarely anyone talks about the fact that tech giants are building these robots and artificial intelligence systems that will do every job that currently requires a manual operator. You will still need the people the build the systems, and maintenance workers, etc., etc. But what about the people who exist because they are a warm body and have limbs that can do a job with dexterity that a robot doesn't currently possess? There are a lot of them out there

Some people are sounding the alarm, and I don't think we are there yet, but give it a decade or so and I think we start seeing some real issues. And this is the way of the world and the direction businesses are headed, so the technology isn't the issue specifically, but how we respond to it will be.

There are far too many people on this planet with no idea what they are going to do when they aren't necessary anymore. Don't get me wrong, businesses need consumers, so they should be at the forefront of this issue, but it's a real head scratcher.

I think that the world will adapt, and much like every occupational revolution, we will understand where we need to go. But where we go is a big looming question, and the sooner we think about it, the better handle we will have when it gets here.
