Some thoughts:
1) NOLA taxpayers aren't paying for the new terminal, unless they are actually using it, then they pay the same jacked-high sales tax, parking tax rates as everyone else, as well as the same $1 increase in PFC that everyone else does.
2) Anyone that cares about the city (I understand this disqualifies most of the O-T) should be ASHAMED at how bad the old terminal looked. Anyone with any sense of civic pride would cringe anytime they set foot in the place.
3) Few people are going to dine in the airport upon arrival, and few people connect at this airport. However, a lot of people, especially casual travelers, do eat at the airport on their departure. Why not have some nice places to eat, some more power at the seats, etc, for people to occupy their time waiting on their flight.
4) Everyone complaining about the delays and problems with construction... how about you turn some of that toward the state with the crap sandwich that is the new airport I-10 exit? 6 years to find funding, and 3 years to build off and on ramps? Are they using actual machines, or just pickaxes and ladders?
5) We constantly complain about how our roads suck, our drainage sucks, our schools aren't that great, etc. Why can't we have something nice for one... ESPECIALLY SINCE ONLY THE USERS ARE THE ONES PAYING FOR IT?

No problem with any of the above except state and federal tax payers are paying for the interstate upgrades.
And I believe Jefferson paid for other road upgrades that are in place now.

This is the weakest argument someone could possibly have while still trying to hold a grudge against the airport.

Uh, was not arguing against airport, just making it clear that tax payers are putting up tax dollars.
I don’t have a dog in the hunt other than that tidbit.

Of what benefit is spending a billion dollars to replace a fully functioning airport?
The old terminal is 60+ years old, and the feel of a mausoleum
But asphalt on entry/exit roads? They spent all that money and couldn't use concrete. New Orleans cant f'ing survive without pot holes.

Very little of that terminal is 60 years old, and most other major airports in this country are built on the footprints of terminals that are also about 60 years old.
Hey, but now we have a billion dollar showcase on the opposite end of all our existing (and mostly new) infrastructure that we can't really get to and are crossing our fingers that it will open and run smoothly in about a week.
I guess we shall see.

Ehhhh but consider how they do that. They essentially demolish and rebuild chunks that are about the size of MSY. For example, George Bush is demolishing Terminal C.
I understand. Two of the 3 terminals we were currently using were fairly new. The SW Terminal B was the only real shitty one and the check in situation. Seems like each could have been rectified for something considerably less than building this new thing that has no adjacent existing infrastructure and is not even as large.
Looks like out of whack priorities to me, but what do I know?
I really hope it all goes off without a hitch, though.

so if that thing breaks (which it will) and there is piss all over the seat cover, can you rip it off?
