Access road still needs a little work. They were working on it today.

Actual modernized park monitoring. Lots of displays and notifications of where open parking is.

Departures. Drop your people off in the middle no matter who they are flying with. Notice no covered drop off, which is different.

Arrivals for individuals. Rental car, hotel pickup, taxi is on the other side, which is cool. Keeps the traffic separate.

Nothing special in bathrooms. Didn't want to be the weirdo taking bathroon pics. Plus there was a big dude in there that looked like he wouldn't appreciate it.

Of what benefit is spending a billion dollars to replace a fully functioning airport?

I’ve been having a flight booked home for a few months for the Bama game. Flying in on Nov 6th to MSY

Was told yesterday that’s the planned day for the new terminal to open.

On a scale of one to OweO, how disabled will the place be?

It wasn’t wonderfully functioning, but I bet I could have made it so for something less than $100 million.

ETA, and still had use of the perfectly functioning existing Interstate access.

They are expanding it not replacing. Also, MSY is a dump comared to other airports around the country.

fully functioning airport
certainly debatable

But I will say that the same inmates will just be running a different billion dollar asylum, so your point is valid

Yeah just read the FAQ. I am wrong. I assumed they would then renovate the old one while the new one was put into service

Working with the existing structure (where a lot of it is about 10-20 years old - some parts even newer) would have made too much sense.

The airlines don’t consider MSY fully functioning. They absolutely hate it. It’s an outdated dump.

The airlines were the ones really pushing it. They will be much more efficient with the new setup.

No worse than airports in cities like Memphis, Seattle, and Philadelphia. The rush to get new municipal crowns, as we've seen with both airports and stadiums, is just an ongoing insecurity contest whereby new is deemed better.

How many more tourists will the new airport draw? There is no significant added capacity with the new airport, despite what claims may be. The billion dollars would much better have been spent to overhaul and rebuild a water system for the city.
