So based on these traffic maps looks like the best way to arrive in north from Loyola or get off at Williams and take veterans in?

Waze tells me right now to get from my office in Gretna to the terminal, is 29 min if I get off at Williams, and 30 min if I get off at Loyola. Pre-airport, that's a 25 min drive in no traffic middle of day, to the Loyola exit.

Are all 3 lanes backed up, or just the right lane?

I'm flying out this time next friday, and unless something changes, this is my plan.

What airline? Was it an originator or a turn around? What did the airline say? That is a lot of bags (if everyone checked a bag) to leave behind.

Just talked to a buddy out there........ he said that the 'new baggage system' is kicking all the bags to 1 or 2 of the 4 belts.

Also told me the number of bags they missed yesterday..... i cant comprehend that amount.

I just dropped someone off at the airport but used surface streets; Jefferson Highway to Williams to Vets wasn't horrible. Took longer to get to than the old airport but nothing outrageous.

Seeing people be total morons in trying to park and drop people off was EXACTLY THE SAME. Awe-inspiring as always.

Coworker sent me a text a little while ago. Got off interstate at Loyola and was parked in long term parking in less than 10 minutes. Security line took about 5 minutes. Not bad at all according to him.

Sounds like, aside from the checked baggage issue, getting to and departing from the new msy is easy peasy.

Agreed.

All the pissing and complaining before it opened had to do with getting to the airport.

No one really thought about leaving the airport. Kinda took that for granted.

Sad thing is if its the same type of system used in other airports (when I worked in Pittsburgh they had something similar) this never should have been a problem on opening day/week. The 'dry runs' should have worked the kinks out before opening.

I just survived landing, getting luggage and taking a shuttle back to old msy parking garage.

Pretty seamless. Had to wait outside on shuttle for around 8 min.

All-in-all it wasn’t nearly as bad as I feared.

Hopefully there is enough time for most of the kinks to work out before Thanksgiving. If the checked bag system isn't fixed by then i would strongly considering carry ons.

They said they only had so many scanners working. Did they not move the scanners from the old terminal?

Apparently it's a mix of old and new. The ones from the old terminal are coming over but it takes time to move and install them, and I guess most of them couldn't start the moving process until after Tuesday night.

Talking to someone right now and the arrivals seems to be a Lyft issue. Uber took 5min to arrive and the Lyft line looked 50 people long.

The limited shuttle last night is inexcusable.

Also said they waited on the tarmac for a gate. The pilot said that empty planes needed to be moved. Not sure if that is a grounds crew thing or if the plane jockies need to move them further than they have in the past.

Apparently there is surge pricing issues at the airport, which I have never seen.

LINK

I can't believe more people would be using the services now as opposed to last week, so I wonder if all of the traffic at the airport and problems with the lines, is somehow tricking the pricing system?

Anybody parked at the old parking garage and checked their bags there yet?

If that goes smoothly it will be my future go to parking option as it is cheaper than US Park and ParkNFly

After reading this article I am convinced that the people that were involved in this new airport thing are intellectually disabled. If they expected there to be issues with like the system that puts bags onto the right plane; they should have tried closing terminals or parts of terminals and moving airlines to the new terminal gradually over a couple of months instead of all at once. That way they could work the little things like making sure that bags get onto the right planes, the traffic patterns, ride sharing services, etc without it affecting everyone.
