Crosswalks are foreign to New Orleans natives, so the way they designed the crossing over to the shuttle area with designated crosswalks and then small barriers along the rest , was asking for people to be all up in traffic from the jump

One of the valid concerns leading up to this, was that they were going to have this nice new facility but no one was going to have any idea how to use it. Remember, we can have the nice stuff, but it's still the same employees and customers and contractors.

quote:no tard, seriously we have been conditioned since we learned to walk that crosswalks in our city are just a suggestion. Very very very rarely will you see anyone from our city in our city obey crosswalks properly. Not just the greedy trick or treater breed.

It’s really part of the culture indirectly

Thought Uber and Lyft staged at the same place as the cabbies.
Are thet just not following directions?

Not really. But I guess where you grew up maybe that’s how y’all roll
I see residents and visitors obeying the new crosswalks that are set up all over town. It’s actually pleasant to see.

Welp... I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I just arrived at the new terminal and there is no shuttle to take anyone back to the old parking garages.
Looks like I have to uber /hitchike/ walk.
NOLA gonna Nola

You’ll love the new Uber prices to leave the airport.

Ended up taking the rental shuttle and then walking back through the old terminal to the garage. When I got to pay gate there were 2 shuttles just parked and not in use. Ended up being a 1 hour ordeal to get out of there.
I guess if you land after 10pm you must fend for yourself.

Man, I was supposed to fly to Canada today with guns and hunting gear. I would have lost it if my shite got rerouted to London or some shite.
Could you have shipped those items via UPS or Fedex earlier and timed for your arrival?
I had someone do this for a project with tools to avoid the heavy baggage rules, but they may give you some issues since it is firearms.

We usually ship our boots, ammo and heavy jackets and heavy gear FEXEX.
We always travel with our guns.

TSA was quick this morning.
Main security was outrageous.
Long term park was a mess. No indication of open lots. No signage on which way to go to get to elevators, etc.
Awesome facility just a lot of kinks to work out, they have certainly thrown plenty of people at the issues.

My golf addict friends do that with their clubs(I am an recovering addict.) Takes a lot of hassle out of travelling.
As to firearms Fedex will ship them priority overnight but I do not think UPS will.

Has anyone else heard about roof leaks in multiple areas? And it was not major rain.

No way they could have planned for this in the design?
One of the things they bragged about with this new terminal was dedicated more efficient staging area for uber/lift.
Fail.
Well they did forget they needed roads to get passengers to the new terminal...
Which I maintain is why the opening was delayed. It had nothing to do with any of the other “delays.” Just the city attempting to save face.

This is what happens when contracts are handed out by the highest political contributions. There are very smart folks that handle logistics like most folks add two and two and I am certain there were better ways to do the uber/lyft/taxi setup, especially since this was a blank slate on which to design it. The morons who designed this system would have had time to see how it worked or did not work successfully at every other airport in the country and still came up with a plan that not only keeps folks from getting a ride for an hour or more but also clogs up the traffic for other cars.
I am not a civil engineer but when you start from scratch I cannot see how these morons thought that having the staging area on the opposite side of the airport and then the cars from there having to merge through the incoming traffic going to parking and pickup made sense. They could have built isolated loops for the shuttles and uber/lyft to avoid this since they had a blank slate. Now, any fix may be better but not ideal because they cannot go back and rebuild all of the roads.
I was at LAX this week and they were doing it the way MSY is now and stopped because it was not working. They went to a satellite hub which is just as flawed but are planning on building roads to deal with the issue.
