What I want to know is how are you going to get to the car rental facility from the new terminal. The old terminal is perfect. Grab your stuff and walk over.

Shuttle buses just like Hobby, Denver, etc...

Does anyone know if Lyft/Uber will drop off outside of new terminal or where they will pick up? I only take a carry on and gave up on parking.

Yes, they are supposed to have an area at arrivals.

There is also a "corral" lot for taxis, rideshare, cellphone, etc, so hopefully it won't take long for your rideshare to arrive.

Like most other larger airports, a shuttle outside the terminal will take you to the rentals.

Have they announced yet the gate/concourse assignments for the airlines?

I’ve seen it somewhere. I believe WN & AA are in B. DL & UA in C. Can’t think of the other airlines.

ETA: hard to read but- WN, AA, AS, and 2 swing gates in B. UA/AC, AA, and the ULCCs in C, Int’l in A.

The car rental facility at Charlotte is great. Walk out the terminal, cross the street, get in your car and go.

Looks like you can go to an Open House to check it out.

I contend they should switch the employee parking to the old long-term garage and put economy in the old short-term garage.

Then keep a TSA checkpoint open in the old D concourse for those parking in economy and secure employees. Shuttle bus to/from D to secure side would be legit.

I see some concerns, all of which could be overcome with some work and planning.

1) Everyone bringing check bags would need to check them in the garage AND have to have a boarding pass before arriving at the airport (or have a facility in the economy garage / D concourse to get one)

2) Bus has to cross the East-West runway

3) Have to have a way to get them into the secure side of the new terminal. So, building something with a ramp/escalator on the secure side, dropping down onto ground level.

4) What about the ride back to the garage after landing? Baggage claim is outside the secure area. So, the shuttle drop off and pick up locations at the terminal would be different.

I doubt that all those eating places can survive either. Why would more eating places than the current terminal be successful? The traffic is not going to suddenly increase.

I doubt the rent will be cheaper in the new terminal

They want all employees to show up at least an hour early(unpaid).
Can't see that being true (the unpaid part).

It's like a restaurant per gate.

Yeah I'm definitely not trusting them with my bag at a garage that is no where near the terminal.

That means not only does your bag have to get checked in, it then must make it on a shuttle, the shuttle then drives the same route you would have to to get to the terminal which could result in traffic delays, then they have to make sure your bag gets taken off the shuttle and placed in the correct area for your airline, then make sure the bag is picked up from that spot and brought to your plane and loaded.

Or I could show up at the terminal with my bag in hand and give it to the airline's curbside check-in that brings it through security to the proper gate or do the same with the indoor ticket counter.

I doubt very seriously the new airport terminal will be as efficient for local frequent flyers as the old.

Ya, the old airport was crappy but sure was a quick and easy check in / security experience

The concourses are no longer segregated. Everyone can access all of the food options.

That's a rather larger difference.

are there more gates at the new airport? If not...what was the point?

I assumed they wanted to increase routes, etc.,

Thought it was supposed to be fewer. Not sure with the expansion.

The point was better flow and modernized airport.

Single security clearance as well.

More gates doesn't exactly mean more connection points.

Less, but from a logistics standpoint it was woefully outdated.

With the new setup they can do far, far more flights with slightly less gates. Allegedly.
