Manufactured homes have come a long way from what they were 30-40 years ago. We’ve considered when we retire selling our house, buying one, and putting on some land out in the country

I have a recently divorced buddy that dropped $120,000 on a 3200 sqft manufactured home. I have to admit that I was skeptical, but you can’t tell that it’s manufactured at all. The process as I understand it is the home is built off site in sections like a traditional home would be and then assembled on site like a puzzle. He has all of the high end finishes a baw could want. I was impressed.

The houses in The Villages, Florida, are built the same way.

When Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway bought Clayton Mobile Homes several years ago, we should have realized where the housing market was going to go.

Buffet's Clayton homes building facility in the other end of my county has added two parking lots and they are filled for at least two shifts a day.

Somebodies are buying them.

Yep. When you say "manufactured" people think mobile homes on trailers. These are simply prepared offsite and brought onside and put together, every nail, every board is already accounted for.

You will always be able to tell that they are one but the newer manufactured homes are pretty damn nice and with the market being what it is I would buy one if I was a first time home buyer.

Everything being standardized means fixes are easier too. The stigma of them is the worst thing about them but self importance is foolish for someone on a budget.

The couple had been living in a 1,100-square-foot home for a decade. But when their first child, Cash, arrived in November 2019, it began to feel cramped.

So they bought a 1,200 sq ft manufactured home?

There’s not a lot of negative besides the incorrect stigma of it being a trailer. If you already have the land, septic, and water in place, you’d be foolish to not at least take look at what some of these manufacturers are offering.

I saw them putting one of these up on hwy 621. It's taking them as long to do this as it would to build a slab house

basically buying a piece of shite that we retain no value as they cost nothing to produce and brand new one will be built next door.

Just because its built on a slab and in a neighborhood doesn't mean its better.

Slab homes are kind of a cheap compromise anyway.

My brother and I are looking for some land around Sunriver, OR to build a couple of barndominiums on in the next year or so.

I'm just looking forward to getting away from crowds/traffic and actually having more than two tiny patches of grass for a front and back yard.
