Will be moving to the Mobile area in July for work. I hear the eastern shore of the bay is my best option for affordability and family safe. Any suggestions from somebody familiar with the area?

There are nice homes in West Mobile, but I'd rather move across the Bay and then drive.

Fairhope, Daphne, Spanish Fort, and the like

The Spring Hill area is really nice. Check out the area around Spring Hill College and Mobile Country Club.

As others have said, Spanish Fort, Daphne and Fairhope are nice.

Good luck

Personally, I liked Midtown when I lived in Mobile, but it can be sketchy and those homes are typically older. Might be too much for a young family.

Co-workers of my wife keep mentioning "Grand Bay." Whatever that is.

Rosinton is nice, especially if you like it quiet. Beach express connecting to the interstate now makes it nice. Fairly close to Mobile, Pensacola and the beach.

Grand Bay is way out in the county, practically to Mississippi.

If you've got a family, eastern shore is probably a good bet. West Mobile is fine too, but its basically a giant strip mall. The Eastern Shore actually has some scenery and you're that much closer to the beach.

I'd do Midtown if youre single or married with no kids. Older houses, but right in the middle of everything. Just dont stray south of Government.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED living in Mobile.

Can't go wrong in West Mobile.

I lived near Hillcrest and Grelot - great area.

If you want a country life and don't mind "country folks" then west mobile is for you.
If you don't mind a little gridlock traffic and prefer a cleaner city and overall "safer" atmosphere then Baldwin county is for you. That includes all the places mentioned, fairhope, Spanish fort, foley, gulf shores, Lillian etc
West mobile county, Grand bay also known as Alabamas watermelon. capital. Might as well be in Mississippi.
Areas not to consider. Pritchard, 8mile, downtown, Unless you're a baller and can afford a mansion on govt street and send kids to McGill, (private school).
Honestly just thinking about mobile makes me hurt. Moved away when I was a teen. Never looked back. Shitehole of a place imo. Only thing I miss is going to south Alabama baseball games.

I doubt you will find a house for under $400K in Spring Hill and it is going to be 60+ years old and need $$$ for renovation.

ETA: I'd look east of the Bay...Fairhope, Daphne
