The resale on Jeeps are ridiculous. Try getting a Wrangler in halfway decent shape and low miles less than $20K is possible but rare.

Specifically?

You are better off buying the base model $40K Gladiator and adding what you want to it and saving $23K IMO

Define "better off". You aren't building a stock Gladiator up to that level and saving money unless you can do a significant amount of the work yourself and most people cannot.

Now, if you are telling me that it is more fun to choose your own modifications then I agree. But it is costly.

This is true.

I have a 2010 that I use as a toad, 7K miles, original down to the battery.

Pretty sure I could get close to what I paid for it.

No thanks.
For the dough, I'd buy a recent used and outfit the engine, suspension, drive train, etc. to my liking and still have cash to spare.

Then it wasn’t maxed out. Gladiator Rubicon is more than $51k.

Yea, I went back and the options like forward camera. matching paint on fender flares wireless speakers 8 speed auto transmission add up.

But the one I looked at had leather seats, hard top back up camera. Pretty nice.

“Maxed out” to most people is just leather, heated seats, premium stereo, cameras. Per the actual options list, it’s quite a bit more lol. Dealership back home has a Gladiator Rubicon lister at $61k right now.

Close $51,000+ but there is a $2500 cash back about to be offered.

The rental agency gave me a four door on a recent trip. It was a stripped down model, granted, but I was surprised by how cheep the interior was.

Do these latest, can you call them luxury models, change that?

Assuming you’re talking about Gladiators then I can’t argue because I don’t own one.

However, as an owner of a Rubicon with a ton of add-ons I will respectfully disagree. Admittedly, I don’t use mine for everyday driving and as a 2009 w/only 21k miles I will say that I use everything I’ve customized on Jeep Jamborees as well as ORV’s. Axles, diff covers, lockers, sway bars, and armor are all completely necessary. The courses I’ve been to go up to 5 diamond ratings which are pretty much borderline insane and I wouldn’t attempt it but I’ve done some solid 4’s and bypassed a few as well.

Now practicality outside of rock climbing I would agree with your sentiment with regards to functionality except I did participate in rescue efforts for the big flood. I passed many bogged pickups even with lifts that didn’t have a snorkel.

Anyway, to each his own, I can see why people would not like Jeeps and I wouldn’t have one for an every day driver. It’s truly one of the few cars where there is literally tens of thousands that have been customized and truly look different than a factory unit. For those driving stock Jeeps - they barely elicit a Jeep wave :lol
