Unfortunately a lot of the "infrastructure" bill won't benefit America's infrastructure.

Yea that would be 94% of Biden's bill according to Turtle.

A better use of those funds might be to increase infrastructure capability by making it more efficient and effective to use barge and train for heavy materials.

Then the roads might actually last longer. Have you seen the interstates near these multi/intermodal facilities?

So you want a high speed train built in a semi third world country in between two war zones. God this country is completely and utterly gone. It’s over I’m convinced

But it doesn’t break even.

Amtrak as a whole doesn't, the Northeast corridor Acela does turn a profit.

If there are multiple stops between Baton Rouge and New Orleans you’re looking at a minimum 4 hour trip to get there.

I'm convinced that you guys wouldn't know a commuter train if it ran over you.

I’ve ridden the subway system in New York. Loved it.

If anything happens in Louisiana, it will be absolutely nothing like any light rail or subway network.

How many people are driving BR to NOLA daily?

And you still have to drive to train station and have transportation at destination

Plus in the time you do that and wait for train you almost could have driven home

Agree.

Makes the most sense out west. LA to Vegas, etc.

Y'all are almost grasping the point. No one lives in BR or cheaper suburbs and commutes to NOLA because of the pain in the arse of the drive plus the costs of the commute.

A plan with a commuter train ties the workforce of the two areas together.

It takes 50 minutes to drive. How long is the train ride supposed to be including boarding and all that? If it only saves you a net 10 minutes it is really not worth it.

If we are gonna light money on fire, we may as well get something nice out of it.

If that were all it saved you, you might have a point.

That is like asking if the interstate from BR to NOLA is worth it because it only saves 15 minutes or so vs Airline Highway.

Plenty of consulting and engineering graft to go around.

BS!

But I agree that this rail idea is stupid. Not enough population density to make this worth it.

I’d rather spend it on roads instead of a rail car between BR and NOLA

To give you an idea, the same money applied to a roads project isn't enough to even add a lane to I10 from BR to NOLA.

Yeah but I'd rather take a nap on a train than deal with douche bags going 55 in the left lane on I-10.

Only if the workforce is in the CBD. I’d love to hear an actual count of people from the Baton Rouge area who actually work in the New Orleans CBD. I’d be willing to bet a vast majority of people in Baton Rouge or Prairieville who say the work in New Orleans really work in a plant in Norco, Taft, Chalmette, etc.

It would be cheaper to buy every light rail rider a Toyota Prius than to build/operate the light rail line.
