This sounds like a very strong opinion. I was speaking of consumption after the age of 18 by the way. The age whereby I can no longer exert control over my child.

If you buy weed from a gas station you have zero interaction with criminal dealers on the black market who sell other illegal shite and do other illegal shite.
Dispensaries in Colorado have had numerous sting operations, where they sent people under 21 in to buy weed. They never even made in the door. Hundreds of attempts without a single underage sale.
It's actually a better way to keep kids from buying weed. I bought my weed in middle school from taco bell employees. High school, it was just there. I knew tons of kids to buy any drug from.
And dispensary employees help people who know nothing on what type of weed will give them their desired effect. Need sleep? Buy an indica. Want something to smoke Stu a concert? Get a sativa. These things can make a huge difference on how much someone enjoys the experience.

I agree. I'm not trying to tear anyone down at all. Although I personally don't know anyone that still does it that has a career. I know they exist though. I just do know people who you probably would think would have done it, that haven't. I know people who have never puffed a cigarette. Not even that they are prudes, they'd be wild in a bar. I think the idea of "smoking" anything is just something that just grosses them out or something. I'm only saying that not everyone has smoked. It's probably more than 50% easily, but not everyone.

The point I'm trying to make is your kid already knows where to get weed. I'm willing to bet they know who has good weed, who has cheap brick weed, who shorts their 8th's, and they can probably tell you the guys name who gives little extra pinch to his friends.
It's likely that your child can make a single phone call and have weed delivered to your house. The same can not be said for alcohol.
How does legalization add any obstacles to your child's life?

That's because most smoking professional are scared of the potential repercussions. If it's legal, they can finally quit hiding their true selves.

Actually, he doesn't. Not all kids know where the "good stuff" is.
He will eventually, but not now. I still have time to teach him to leave it alone.

How is this relevant? It's almost like you're saying people who use cannabis are not capable of having a high paying job. There are lots of jobs out there that do not drug test. Doctors, lawyers, CPA's, ect ect ect....

I've definitely known people who spent every last cent they had on it.
Now the argument that they would have latched into something else is a valid one, but these people I can't think of what. They weren't exactly physically"addicted". They literally smoked themselves stupid and that's all they wanted to do with their life.

Because when the price drops 50-75%, the black market dries up. It's left in the hand of legal producers, which get sold st dispensaries. Any black market weed grown in Colorado goes out of state. And they'll continue to happen until it's legalized in more places.
I only know of one person that grows and sells their weed on the Colorado black market. And it's the best weed I've ever seen. Better than any dispensary, which is almost always better then anything I bought in the South. It's also more expensive than weed st dispensaries. But a connoisseur is willing to pay extra.

I guess maybe if he is in diapers but if he's in high school, he knows.

I find this interesting. Are you also going to teach him to leave alcohol alone? What else will fall into this category? How far are you willing to go?

And I'm going to venture to guess that he doesn't have coke, heroin, meth, or pills to offer his customers.

Yay! More government control just what we need. The argument of it being addictive is dumb. Alcohol, perscription drugs etc are all addictive and legal.

I don't drink at home, ever, only out and at bars. And I do it to get a buzz. How is me taking a couple hits of reefer before bed 4 nights a week different from my friends that drink a bottle of wine every night?

I have no problem if my kid tries pot. If it starts affecting parts of his life like job, school, showering. Then I have a problem, but the problem I would have with the reefer is the same i would have if he turns into an alcoholic. Recreational use? Go for it, wait till you are in college please but by all means, at least try it so you can either say "yeah, I like it" or "nah, it ain't me" I have plenty of friends who have tried pot and didn't like it...

Yes. Leave it alone until it's legal for you to partake and make good judgments about it's use.
Category? Being law abiding? I teach him the rules of the road so he doesn't get tickets when he can drive. Drugs? Yeah, leave them all alone. I don't even like to take aspirin.
I'll go as far as I think I need to in order to set him up to be the best person he can be.
Let me really set you off now. I take him to church with me. :gasp:

I didn't read the link but mostly agree with the pasted section. I think pot can be mostly beneficial for many people if taken in moderation.
Perhaps there should be more education geared towards young people regarding definitions of moderation, avoiding the frequent mix with alcohol (i.e. if you drink all night and then smoke, it will impact you in a much greater way), and possibly incorporating it into other areas such as meditation/yoga/etc.
I guess my point is that pot seems to help some people (blood pressure, outlook on life) if used in moderation while it also seems to hurt others. Not sure if those people that can't handle it responsibly are just destined to be self destructive anyway.

Nope. It's a hippie. At worst, I think his buddy has done Swiss pharmaceutical grade lsd. Only happy, non physically addictive substances.
Though, i am surprised at how much cocaine in Colorado. Ice seen 10x more here than Nola, and I barely go out in comparison.

99.9% of people I've socialized with have tried it. And even though I love it, a vast majority of my friends don't like it. I've never had a girlfriend that was a smoker. But I almost always smoked in their beds. Good weed smells wonderful. Most people love the smell of my Colorado cologne
