Some fatties are definitely fat because of their choices but others are not. So the OT experts who say that fatties are only fat because they choose to be are wrong.

Lack of will power is something that can be overcome. Instead, when shortcuts are found like this, you choose to believe it means it is out of their control. It is not.

People today think in terms of living with an overabundance of food. The tendency to overeat and store fat was an evolutionary advantage for 99% of our existence as a species. If we went back to famine conditions, “food addicts” would be dancing on the graves of us skinnies. It’s hard to undo evolution in one generation. I have sympathy for people who are fat. If the meds help, good for them. But - we don’t know the long-term adverse effects.

everything you listed is working on phycological and lifestyle changes...not basic biology. it does not make his previous comment false. Failure to achieve goals with these in place is not a biological failure, it is a failure of drive and will.

Who cares. Assuming the drugs don’t have bad side effects, the use of them is a very positive thing.

this is where i am with it

people like the person you quoted will say "word is" the medication burns muscle at same rate as fat but that is false as the medication doesnt burn either. it simply blunts all hunger signals and dumb fatties choose to continue to make bad choices and eat very low calories, not prioritize protein and not lift weights so they burn muscle at a high rate.

Ignorant, not dumb. And they’re ignorant at least partially because their doctors won’t tell them the truth.

I don't think anyone in this thread is really arguing otherwise. We are just saying that it's bullshite that a person could not accomplish the same results with willpower. The drugs stop people from eating as much as they previously were, anyone could do that if they just....stopped eating so much

man i used to feel like that, but with all the good shite on the internet...no excuse. i mean every influencer just about is atleast saying...priortize protein and lift weights.

and yea doctors dont tell truth because at the end of the day, they are running a business. cant piss off the customers

and again this medicine is awesome and the ones that come off the original glp1 research will change how we treat obesity to an extent. but the economics of it mean it overall will not change it.

now we will see a lot less fat upper middle class women

Calorie restriction => decreased metabolism.
If you have a sedentary lifestyle.

That is the problem with most all of these studies, is they suppose a sedentary lifestyle.

Eat less, move more

You have to burn calories.

Exercise creates more lean muscle, which always increases metabolism by it's very nature.

combine that with a lower caloric intake, and what we have is a machine that can not fail to lose weight. 100% of the time, every time.

I stated earlier. All Ozempic does is makes you feel full and curbs appetite.

So, in his world this should NOT cause any weight loss.

Because:

quote:

Calorie restriction => decreased metabolism.

which means nobody on Ozempic should be losing weight

You are in the sweet spot, the older you get the harder to keep those numbers no matter what you do.

first off, nobody is arguing that. They are arguing against the OP's absurd notion that some people are biologically unable to lose weight, even if they diet and exercise.

No it does not. In order to qualify for bariatric surgery in the USA a person has to try diet and exercise first.
Correction: you have to SAY you tried it.

I knew a guy in East Tennessee that got bariatric surgery. He never even accidentally exercised or dieted.
