You know multiple people actually diagnosed with GB?

Where did I say that. I know 4 people in the last few weeks who got a chest cold and ended up not being able to walk for a few days. 1 tested positive for COVID. 3 did not.

None were vaxxed.

The doctors all said the same thing - autoimmune response due to some virus.

Yes

Viral myositis

I think alot of people are trying to give your bother GB through internet diagnosis.

I’m not exactly sure why Gullian Barre is being weaved into here (not saying you did it)

ETA: you did post an article talking about Gullian-Barre. That leads to some confusion there

What he initially described was similar to GBS symptoms a family member experienced post-COVID infection. And I knew someone who developed GBS after the flu when I was younger.

You're trying to drag people for mentioning a potential diagnosis when you yourself are doing exactly what you're accusing others of by insisting it's viral myositis (which it could be as well) which some weird certainty on limited symptomology.

The point remains either way. Why the sudden uptick? Maybe the thread is more of a PSA to be on the lookout for a virus going around

I'd hope if this were permanent. that a good family member or friend would do the right thing for me.

No

I’m simply naming exactly what he said they had “an autoimmune response to a virus that causes difficulty walking for a few days “

That’s viral myositis

Gullian Barre is in a far different arena from what he is describing.

Weren’t there some viruses going around a few years ago that had polio-like qualities?

Why the sudden uptick
Is there? I had this as a child and my son had it as well many years ago

I think it rises every year as we head into the fall and winter. I would think a new virus like Covid would help make it trend upwards as the flu is usually the most common virus that causes it

Acute Flaccid Myelitis, that was the name. Associated with an enterovirus. These things do happen.

Not really.

I’m just wondering why the sudden explosion of it, at least in the LP area, in the last few weeks.

Yeah, really.

I had what I am calling Feauxvid. Pretty intense fever like symptoms for two days, but I never had actual fever. Legs and lower back were incredibly sore. Now I have a little respiratory hangover, but nothing bad.

I’ve had it for about 6 days now. Just about over it, but it’s been like a deep sinus infection

Same here I'm the end stage so I'm on about day 11 or 12. Still got some stuffiness and chest congestion but nothing as bad as what I had when I first got sick last Saturday. I ran a fever for about 2 and half days off and on, post nasal drip that turned into a sore throat, body aches, etc..

By the end of last week, I wondering how can the human head hold so much mucus I was blowing my nose for what felt like every 5 minutes. I swear gallons had to come out of my nostrils by the end of the week.

Even today I still have to clear out my nose every few hours and I still have a slight lingering cough. It's been a while since I had a cold /sinus infection so I guess I was due to go through the ringer for once.

Viral myositis is a condition characterized by muscle inflammation due to a viral infection. Patients present with muscle pain, tenderness, swelling, and often weakness. The most frequent viral causes of myositis are the influenza viruses and enteroviruses, with symptoms of myositis typically starting a few days after the onset of fever. Symptoms are most prominent in the proximal musculature (arms and legs), and pain is often exacerbated by movement.

Is this something that could come and go over a few days? Oldest had a nagging infection that lasted awhile. And one day after playing around a lot started complaining of leg pain in the groin area. We just assumed a soft tissue injury with all of the running & jumping. Suddenly started complaining they couldn't walk because of the pain; coincidently right at bedtime. Iced it and off to sleep. Fine the next day, then suddenly a flare up after a lot of running around. This happened 4-5 times over a weekend.

We assumed it was just over exaggeration of a soft tissue injury, and attention seeking because they didn't want to go to bed. But it also partially fits what you posted.

I am in the same condition as BayouBengal51 except 8 days into it, just have chest and head congestion but I am usually feeling better after 3-5 days. This seems to hold on longer.

My grandfather died of GB complications. Was paralyzed for a few weeks, started getting better then threw a blood clot to his lungs from prolonged immobility.

Shook 12 year old JR's world to the foundations.

Guillain-Barré can be activated by a viral or bacterial infection. It's unusual for it to occur that frequently though.

Or what they used to call it, polio.

Read about it when I was a teen in Reader’s Digest. Woman wrote about her experience with it. Nightmare doesn’t begin to describe it.

No. They're two separate conditions. Poliovirus causes polio, which can have symptoms like GBS. Other viruses, bacterial and viral, other than polio can cause GBS. Poliovirus can cause GBS but it's really rare.

Viral myositis.

We see it ALL THE TIME in kids, usually due to influenza (flu A last season).

GBS is a flaccid progressive paralysis that starts in the legs and moves upwards.

Polio is completely different.
