Holy shite, did you warn your son about that being a behavoral red flag?

Without a doubt

Her dad had the money and he sure as hell didn't have the money to continue that lifestyle.

Year one they had over 100k in vehicle payments plus a 20k RZR.

I laughed and told my wife that life was going to come crashing down on them in short order.

Back to the paying for weddings.

When this tradition started it wasn't anywhere near what it is now. It is out of hand and TV shows have perverted this to an extreme. You had families come together and provide food and place to get together. Now it's 10k catering and a band or DJ plus all of the other things that go along with it.

Pissing money away.

That’s how it’s done.

It was pretty awesome. I grew up in MT, so either way one side of our family was going to have to travel. We just let all our friends and family know about the wedding well in advance so they could plan to travel. Everyone just made it their summer trip, most spending a week or so up there.

Had put 10K into my only daughters wedding. That has been 11 years ago. Was NOT pissing away money for this.

I did because I was an adult when I got married.

Got married for the first time at 25, had a small wedding and reception at one venue, married by a JP. The wife and I paid for that ourselves.

Paid for the next 2 also, but at my age now, I'll not be married again. I'm in #3 for life or death.

I can't understand folks paying tens of thousands of dollars for a wedding. Such a waste of money in my opinion for a 1 night event, especially when so many marriages end in divorce.

The wife and I had a shotgun wedding. Yep, by the JP. Three years later, we had our wedding blessed in the church. I knew at that time, the wife and her family were extra happy. Will be hitting 39 years in Nov.

If I can offer a word of advice to people.

Save your money. If your parents are paying for it and offers you the option of giving you x amount of money if you decide to go off and have a small wedding or to pay for the wedding.. Take the money and go do some quick marriage.

Why?

- Because, i'd say at least 50% of the people who attend your wedding probably doesn't really want to be there anyway.

- Your wedding isn't going to be any more special than any other wedding that the other half, have attended.

- Are you having the big wedding because you actually want it or because you think that it's sort of expected that you have it?

- The wedding party (people in the wedding). There are only so many flask, wine glasses, etc someone can get. You will be spending money on stuff like gifts for the wedding party.. in which those gifts will be put up somewhere and never be used.

I did. Didn't have a problem doing it. Of course they worked part time jobs.

Wrong. It wasn't the marrying that cost----it was the divorce.

That’s not how it’s done.

Parents pay for the daughter’s 1st wedding. Groom’s family picks up the rehearsal dinner.

Any variance, at all, from this is trashy.

Most people I know who have been married in recent years paid for it themselves.

My wedding cost $27.50. My dad did pay for the brisket we had after.
