all because one company bans showing smoking on new kids programming

If only it were just Netflix. That’s easily remedied, but instead, it’s a culture on nanny stating everything to death that’s at play today. It’s everything from what you see to what you do to what you think, say, and do. There’s no limit to the laws, regulations, bans, and no no’s that people in this country place upon themselves and others that point in the direction of an Orwellian state. Once the land of the free and home of the brave, the dog is returning to it’s own subservient vomit because it forgets where it came from and sees no danger in lapping it up again. Make no mistake about it. Freedom and liberty is for the brave. We are no longer brave.

I’m talking about the overall direction society is wanting to go in.

To recap:

Netflix decides to stop showing smoking on ONLY NEW, ORIGINAL content that is created for an audience UNDER THE AGE OF 15.

Then the OT freaks out because they don't read or comprehend what is happening and think Netflix is washing history away from their classic movies and tv shows.

This thread could be a case study into American reactionary tendencies in the internet age.

Netflix announced plans this past week to exclude tobacco use from any of its new shows and movies that target younger audiences, specifically those below the age of 15.

Seems like this should have been happening already? Nice virtue signal there.

I mean, I get what you're saying when it comes to other things.

But they literally are just saying they aren't going to show smoking on new, kids programming that they create in house. That is hardly controversial and something that has been done for a long time by other companies, just without a press release.

You don’t see the ridiculous movement for fat acceptance? Health documentaries don’t even discuss being sedentary or over eating. We pretend sugar or carbs or meat alone makes you fat instead of choices.

They are wondering why all shows are going to ban depicting smoking when it says it’s only for any new shows and movies geared towards kids 15 and younger.

So ban smoking but keep making the show that increases suicide in teens?

Sure. I see it on the internet in places. And then it gets shared all over the internet and people rip it to shreds.

I don't see it as an overall direction society is going. And I certainly don't see society, as a whole, saying obesity is brave.

most health documentaries are simply advertisements for diets

Netflix is the internet

That was my point. Why do you act so difficult on this board?

They don't give a shite about your health. Tobacco companies contribute heavily to Republicans. That's all there is to it.

Alcohol kills many more people per year but you'll never see a snarky, wall-to-wall youth-targeted "the truth" campaign against it. Quite the opposite, even though alcohol company owners are into NXIVM sex cults and shite.

You would rather the government step in and tell netflix how to run their business?

How often do you see people smoking in kids movies or shows? Seems like a policy move that most people adhere to already.

My point was smoking is such a known danger that no one is trying to argue otherwise. Short of outright banning it, I don’t see how you get the smoking rates any lower.

Obesity is everywhere and getting worse and the Internet leftists are calling it brave/quit fat shaming, etc. priorities are bizarre.
