If they get through and the dogs are out they are going to kill ur dogs and if ur girlfriend is there they will attack her next. Had one attack my wife for absolutely no reason outside of jazzfest this year. Bit her on her belt, teeth went through the belt and slightly punctured her. The only thing stopping it from severely injuring her and me throwing it through the front window of Lola’s on esplanade was the the slack on its chain ran out. I don’t care what anyone says, those dogs need to be exterminated, and I have 2 labs and absolutely love dogs. As worried as I would be about my dogs I’d be that much more worried about my wife/gf being alone in the backyard trying to fend those monsters off.

I live for these threads.

frick that neighbor for having a dog off leash in the front yard. Right there would be my first red flag. Second is this your fence they are tearing up!?! If so I would be seeking monetary damages. A mud board at their expense would be put in. If dogs continued to damage I’d keep hitting them with bills. The issue is their dogs. I know and have been around plenty dogs that shared fence. Besides barking not much happens. The one dog I know that dig under a page fence to get to a friends dog. Yep it was a pit. I’d act with extreme prejudice. If the dogs attack you, your old lady or her lap pissers. Waste the frickers.

ETA: bunch of idiots up In here suggesting he is responsible to fix his fence that the neighbors dog fricked up. Y’all know what a nice fence cost? The pits dug underneath that fence. frick putting rebar or steel sheets. frick all that work and just general trashiness because if you do that you are bowing down. Tell them to keep the fricking dogs in their yard without damaging your property.

Family member had a similar issue. The sweetest pit ever would claw under the fence. Eventually injured their dog who needed stitches. They called the city. Not much happened but the pit owners were ordered to keep the dog inside. Owners complied until my relatives moved.

I bet they do if you use the right keywords such as waiting with a firearm.

I hate to tell you this, but those dogs will use that 3' fence as a stepping stone to go over the top of the privacy fence. It is only 8" away from the tall fence. WTF? Keep your gun with you. Pitts will climb a fence.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. But we’ll see. They have metal stakes driven into the ground every 3 feet or so, and a double sheet of plywood either screwed or bolted to it. It looks awful, but I’m not concerned with the esthetics in their yard.

I’ve come to the realization that I just have to take the dogs out to pee, which is fine. Taking my girlfriend to the range this weekend to get her comfortable handling a fire arm (bear mace should be here Thursday).

To hide the Hideous chain link, you can plant confederate jasmine along it and it will use it as a kind of trellis, and its an evergreen so it wont look shitty in the winter.

My girlfriend suggested that and a few other ideas. She was immediately on Pinterest or whatever they do looking at things to make it “pretty”.

Many years ago my daughter and her toddler lived in an apartment with a small yard separated from the next door apartment by chain link. The couple next door had two Pitts. My granddaughter being a toddler thought the dogs were for her to play with and would put her hand/arm through the chain link to pet them. She did learn not to do that. One day while i was visiting, the owners were outside with their dogs. I simply told them if the dogs did anything to harm my grandchild I would kill them and the dogs. This couple took their dogs and moved about a week later.

My talk with the neighbor was great. I explained to her what happened. She tried to pass it off as “trying to play. She’s not aggressive” I shut that shite down. I told her, as nicely and as sternly as I could, that if her dog ever got a snout in my yard again, I would hurt it. She said she completely understood, and it would be fixed today. It’s 9:15ish, and they have built a fence inside their yard (about 3 feet tall, about 8 inches from the fence separating our yard). She assured me it won’t be a problem again, and I believe her.

I am glad your neighbor wasn't a problem but don't be surprised if this isn't the end of it. Not much stops these dogs when they get aggressive.

Also why do you feel you must pay for and reinforce your fence that was damaged by these dogs? All of these people that are giving you suggestions on how to keep these dogs from digging under your fence are a bunch of pansies. How in the world is it your responsibility to strengthen your fence because these dogs are doing this?

IMO your problems are far from over. Yes you say this lady is all nice and apologetic but she isn't doing this out of a sense of responsibility or being a good neighbor. She is doing this to keep you from calling the police or shooting her dog. Because if she was really remorseful and was a good neighbor she would had your fence fixed while they were building her one or she would have offered to pay for your damage. I hope it works out for you but don't think it is, you will have more problems with the dogs and her.

So far I'm out about $120. I'm more than willing to pay to sure up my yard, give myself and my girlfriend a little piece of mind.

And you're right, it is not my responsibility to strengthen my fence because of these dogs doing this. My responsibility is to protect my animals and my girlfriend. I'm doing that. Or, attempting to.

You're 100% correct. My problems are far from over. I know she was blowing smoke up my arse. She doesn't live under a rock. She's aware of the reputation Pits have and what they're capable of. But she's making an effort. Will an effort matter if the pit gets through and kills my dogs? No, but Idk what else I can ask for? As I said, I go out with the dogs now. My dogs don't really want to be out unless I'm out, so I take a book and a beer or coffee (depending on the time of day) and sit. I won't rest easy until either we move or they do. But I felt a little better last night.

This is a huge problem. You feel that you have to take your dogs out to pee, in your own back yard.

Honestly, I would test these dogs. You, gf and wiener dogs go grill in the back yard, play fetch, have your morning coffee out there. Test these pits and see how their fence holds up, and how your own holds up. If their shite fence is 3’ tall, they will leap over it and continue to dig under yours.

Test them the next couple weeks. In the end you will have to go visit with the neighbor one more time, to tell her to do more to save her dogs, or to tell her they’re dead.
