I'll rephrase, one of many things wrong. If you feel you have the right to shoot someone who punches you a few times after you destroy their property I don't know what to tell you. But in reality you're just talking a bunch of Internet shite and you'd just take your arse whipping and cry.

Destroyed someone's property or neutralized a threat to my family?
I bet you have no problem with someone shooting one of the kids playing the knockout game. Bottomline, you try to assault me, I'm going to shoot you. You can be manly as frick while 6 of your buddies carry you.

My son would be terrified if I blew a dog away in my front yard. I doubt he'd ever really get over it. He's not afraid of dogs, but holy shite if I fired my 357sig into a dogs ribs right by him he'd never forget.

In this instance destroying property and yes I'd have a huge problem with someone being shot over the knockout game. And no, no you wouldn't.

And if that dog was honestly a threat and mauled him, I bet he wouldn't get over that either.

The kid is the kicker here. Anyone who would let a dog growl at their kid and not do something is batshit crazy. You don't risk ANYTHING happening to your own kid.
For all we know, the guy might have pointed the gun at the dog and yelled for it to go away before shooting. No matter what, though, it could have been prevented by keeping dogs on your own property. If you love your dog, you keep it safe, not let it get itself killed at someone else's house.

Set his house on fire. Seriously. Thats what people at my camp do when the neighbors shoot their dogs.

It would maul me, why would I let my son deal with that? We're in the yard...I'm responding.

PS - lest we forget that every Pit Bull is described as a very sweet dog that wouldnt hurt a flea until it mauls someone's nuts off the side of their head.

If you think you're going to get great advice about this situation here on the OT you're barking up the wrong tree.

Not what I was looking for or expected. Just wanted to get some varying opinions on the situation. And I got that. So thank you to everyone who responded.

They call the police and the officer shows up and take both sides of the story. The neighbor ends up admitting to shooting her dog. Claims that at the time her dog was in his yard, his female dog, who is in heat, and his son were also in the yard. Claims that her dog growled at his son, so he shot the dog.
His dog, his son, his yard.
frick your girlfriends dog.

whatever happened to going inside and calling police or animal control?
meh, i'll just shoot it instead.

Since he admitted shooting the dog, I'd take his picture and post flyers all over the area stating what he did. May not be much but at least everyone will know what dick weed he is.

Exactly. The guy had time to go inside, grab a gun, walk back outside and shoot the dog. The issue could ha e simply been resolved with a phone call to animal control. The girlfriend would have had to deal with far less than a dead pet. I honestly feel bad for the neighbors son, terrible role model of a father.

So you are teaching him to be a wimp by not teaching him how to be a man?

What a relief! A man in a crowd of pussy assed subdivision dwellers. Congrats.
