breathing =/= acting threatening

i could see if the dog was simply "trespassing", but if it was acting like it was going to attack something/someone, theres not much you can say

When the neighbor is at work let his dog loose. Chances are that she will find a male dog to make her happy, and the neighbor unhappy.

I think the guy shooting his neighbors dog is an idiot. Damn, dogs growl. What happened when you would tell your kid to stay away from dogs that growl?

But those that are saying they would beat the shooter are just about as crazy. It is a dog.

Why don't people know their fricking neighbors anymore.

I even know the animals of my neighbors I hate. Of course they may eat them, so I don't think they would care if I shot their cat.

You have no idea what you're talking about. In your world people are all letting their dogs roam the neighborhoods.....that simply isn't happening.

That is exactly what happened in this scenario.

OP's girlfriend only went out to look for her dog after she heard a gunshot. Where was her dog? Roaming the neighborhood.

If it was acting as if it was going to attack then you make sure your son gets to safety, indoors. Shooting off a gun, much less in a neighborhood should be a last resort. I dont feel as if this was that type of situation.

Even in the city limits you can protect yourself with a gun.

Right now this is clear as mud.

It's too bad the dog wasn't a pitbull. Nobody would give a shite then.

What happened to keeping your dog supervised and off your neighbors property?

I mentioned earlier in this thread, dogs can't be reasoned with. I find wrestling an angry dog the only way to mutually resolve any conflict.

People get really upset when you tell them, "I shot your pitbull". How many actually get upset though when you tell them "I wrassled his arse out the box and stunned him on the concrete."

I've always been told, "Mad respect Booger. I wouldn't take that som bitch bare handed."

Undefeated so far.

truth is we don't know the whole truth

we only know the dog-owners side of the story, which is very likely to be very biased

based on only what the OP said, which like i said, is probably somewhat biased....I still think the shooting could have been justifiable, even though theres always a chance that it was an overreaction

Excellent point, what did you do with the dog once, well you know....?

Could have made a few bucks at the right buffet if you know what I mean...

There are a few situations where it would have been pretty understandable to shoot the dog. We don't know if this is one of those situations or not, but if we are to take OP at his word then it doesn't really seem like it.

There could easily be some information left out that would make everything look different though.

I dont disagree. But think about it this way.

If the gun was outside and your son is not old enough to understand to get inside when you tell him, shame on you for having a gun around an infant. But, if it is charging/attacking your son then I understand.

If you are outside with the gun and you are able to tell your son to get inside, then no need for the gun unless it is literally attacking your dog...in which case it is possible you hit your dog as well.

If you have time to get your son/dog indoors and safe, why the need to come out with a gun after the fact?
