Pretty sure I have read where Ed Mitchell wore a Rolex GMT on the surface of the moon. There are also pictures that seem to support this.
Hmm..i’m too lazy to find out at the moment, but i did some research on the Bulova a while back.. apparently astronaut Dave Scott’s government-issued Omega Speedy malfunctioned on the surface of the moon, but luckily he had his personal Bulova Moonwatch that continued to keep perfect time.. He rediscovered it in a safety deposit box only a year or two ago and it sold at auction for $1.5 million.. shortly after. Bulova decided to start manufacturing them again.

I'd save up for the Rolex, imo to start there are 4 main watches you should have for the cornerstone of your collection.
Rolex Day-Date Presidential
AP Royal Oak
Patek Phillippe Nautilas
Hublot Big Bang
All of these can be worn daily and hold value.

I was nodding along - although I would put others above the President - until I saw the Hublot Big Bang.
I would also sub the Nautilus for a different Patek - maybe the 5227 in the realm of reasonable watches - since you already have a Genta watch.

i wasn't listing in any particular order, and you are probably right, i just don't like that style watch. I like the classics and if anything i would just get different variations of those models.
I'd like to hold a HYT havn't seen one in person.

Why do so many people go apeshit in watch threads? I don’t get it.

Two real Gentas and a cheap knock-off. You’ve got very specific tastes in watch aesthetics.

what would you replace the Big Bang with?
Cartier Tank?
I'm obsessed with the Nautilas right now it's my next purchase, it's so simple from a distance but so expensive looking up close, i was in Aruba 2 weeks ago and almost snapped off on one b/c of the no tax.

Get a watch with band not a bracelet, and don't get get the same style of a watch you eventually want.
And, save up...
And, save up...

I would never own a Cartier. Too scared I would be sued by these sue happy freaks.

That's a terrible idea. The bracelet will cost more than double aftermarket if he wants to get one later. It's cheaper to go bracelet and replace it with a strap/band if he wants than to go the other way around.

My advice was don't wear a bracelet, so getting one down the road wasn't in my line of thought.

That's a nice looking watch but nobody is going to recognize that. I can spot a presidential 100 yards away and know him/her got some dough and they frick.

Got dough and terrible taste, great. That's a rapper's watch.

that's funny, the presidential is the most classic "i've made it" splurge there has ever been.

You're making my point.
Show some soul.

i mean i guess you could go spend 30k on some watch that has no demand for, but i don't see the point. I think of them as investments.
for instance the green face 60th anniversary presidential... it's a bet if it's a collectors item, i'm guessing it will be worth more in the future.

Almost any investment would be less tacky.
To the OP...get a sapphire sandwich, manual wind Speedy and call it a job well done.
