My sonicare electric finally stopped working after about 10 years. Had a very strong record. No cavities/fillings in that time frame. Should i get another one? Is it still the standard for toothbrushes? What is the OT using these days?

amazon currently has on sale for $25

Why change it up if it works? FWIW, I have used Sonicare for the past 10 years or so.

That Sonicare design collects slime under the head and is gross. It's sort of the "smegma model".

Get one like this:

See the difference in the head design? It doesn't accumulate all that junk.

This is a good one. My dentist and periodontist both recommend Sonicare, but don't say negative about Oral B. I think Sonicare now makes a reciprocating brush model like Oral B if you prefer that type.

Mine Sonicare is now 21 yrs. old, but battery is nearing end.

To be clear, the newer Sonicares like the one I posted take some cues from Oral B. The heads are narrow diameter at the base and plug in, while the older ones have a wide base and screw on. The newer design is a lot better.

The replacement heads i buy from Costco look more similar to the ones you have pictured. They have the best deal on replacement imo.

You are correct. Mine is the older wide base/screw on. The underside of the screw on shield and the area it covers on the main body is where the yuk can build-up if you don't clean regularly.

The wife and I will get the one you reference on our next trip to Sams. Mine last 21 yrs. and she replaced hers with a newer one about 11 yrs. ago.

Thanks for the info. I had not investigated the differences.

Get the same one you had before for $25. The super expensive Sonicare's have a poor seal and will go bad on you in about 2 years (right after the warranty) - go read some reviews. It just happened to me as well. No more $200-$300 toothbrushes with crazy expensive replacement heads.

No need to buy a new one then. Just use that one. Your breath might improve.
