Post the teachers email and we can all explain to her that she's an idiot.

I would say $425 but only if it's worded exactly like you just said -- sale price. That's (75*100/15)-75 = 425.

If they meant retail price then obviously $500.

$75/.15 =$500 = original price

$500 - $75 = $425 = Sale Price

or

$500 X .85 = $425 = sale price

I think you are right!

Teacher is an absolute dumbass if your OP is really how it's worded.

If that teacher got better pay, she'd understand simple math better. At least that's what I've been told.

Private school. Now.

The teacher is dumber than I thought. She doesn’t understand the phrasing. She messes it up in multiple ways. Doesn’t understand what marked down $75 means. She just takes a 15 percent discount off a $75 product. The fact this woman is teaching children is alarming.

75/.15 = 500

Original price is 500. 500-75 = 425. That's the price it's on sale for. Unless there's something missing in the problem you gave us, you're right.

0.15x = $75

75/0.15 = $500

$500-75 = $425

A stereo is marked down $75. If this is a 15% decrease, find the sale price?

Apparently it should say 'marked down from $75' if her correct answer is 63.75.

OP, I just googled your question and it came up with many results on the internet.
Here is the answer key:

LINK

It's problem #4.

Answer key says $425.

Email your child's teacher and tell her she is a dumbass.

A quick google search has given me ammunition. Should I email the teacher?
