Stop breathing when you sleep, maybe?…

You had a rather extensive procedure done. Yeah man that hurt for a long time I would think. That’s a lot of stuff going on there. I bet you don’t have near as many sinus infections now though?
Dude it was a living nightmare for 14 days. You have no idea
No sinus infections or sore throat whatsoever, but my nose constantly runs, I still snore, but not so bad that I need to use my CPAP.
I use Flonase a few times a day, and take a 24 hour allergy pill once a day.

2) palate issues, long uvula etc. - several in office procedures can be done but won't be covered by your insurance .
That's a good list as snoring can be caused by be many things. #2 back upper palate area for me is the issue.
I've always been reasonably thin, and even when I had a runner's build in my teens & 20s, I would snore due to that uvula area sort of collapsing onto the back of my throat-- if I slept on my back. If I slept on my side, no snoring.
My wife is a light sleeper so I did go to a snoring center doctor once. For me, he said to forget any of the mouthguards, nose strips, etc., and that the surgery where they remove some or all of the uvula and surrounding tissue would be the only thing that helped me. Sounds similar to what tgrbaitn08 had done, I think. Google "uppp surgery" and look at the images to get a sense of what would happen. In my case, I know he's right because I sometimes catch myself snoring when half-asleep and know it's that area. May not be for you.
I didn't get the surgery and have just become more consistent with sleeping on my side. Putting an extra pillow between the knees can make it easier to remain comfortable side sleeping without needing to roll as much.
Aside from mouth/nose appliances or surgery, there is one other option I know of... it's a little out there, but makes sense in a way: learning to play a didgeridoo (the droning sort of pipe instrument from Australia). The premise is that it strengthens and firms up the tissues in the mouth and throat areas so that they don't droop as much when you relax and go to sleep. Google "didgeridoo and snoring" and you'll see there are medical studies that say playing every day for 20+ minutes will improve snoring. No idea if other horn instruments are as effective, or if the didgeridoo is specifically more challenging with creating mouth pressure and therefore more effective. I'm in an apartment in the city, so didn't try it as I don't have a good place to play.

Where can you buy one without seeing a doctor?

I've never seen anyone pass a sleep study.
But if Dr. won't subscribe, go to a medical supply company.

Same surgery and yes I’ll wake myself up snoring when I’m half asleep

I sleep with 4 pillows. 1 on each side, 1 between my knees and 1 under my head and for some reason I seldom end up on my back, snoring. If I stayed on my side I’d be fine, but for whatever reason I don’t.
I use this app ShutEye that records my sleep and picks up my snoring and my quality of sleep.
It even picks up when I cough or fart

Pretty cool app

This.
Or make a pillow setup that forces you to sleep on your side.

Don't sleep. It's always worked for me.

I found an unused one the very first day I looked and it has a free data card in it and uploads my results nightly. Been using it for years to keep the peace with the wife.
I did a free study with my dentist and got the jaw appliance but I hated putting that thing in my mouth and it didn't help at all.
Like the other poster said, even at the peak of my fitness training and racing bikes, my resting heart rate was in the high 30s but still snored like a train.
All the CPAP does is push that sweet O2 into my lungs and I feel great when I wake up.
Why am I up at 3am? Wife and I just had a little fun and it got me amped up so I'm in the den drinking water trying to get sleepy again.

I know the procedure you are referring to. I had the traditional sinus surgery that was a miserable recovery. Didn’t produce the results that were promised.
I went back to see about the other surgery. It is outpatient. The Dr gives you a local and goes up the nostrils with the camera and balloon device. The balloon is placed in the sinus drains and expanded. It’s on YouTube and you can hear the small pops. Mostly it is just a minor nose bleed afterwards. Alas, I was not a candidate as the drains were open.
There are now idiots putting an actual balloon up their nose and quickly expanding it. If they can’t deflate the balloon quickly you can see the patient/victim struggling to breathe.

How much though? If you are still overweight it’s not going to do much. As said only so much you can do. But being healthy and not drinking will helps
Skinny people snore too.

They make their living selling cpap. You are not telling us something. Why did the doctor say no cpap?
I had a buddy who just missed the numbers for a cpap. If you have fewer occurances than their threshold, you don't get prescribed one I guess.
When I had my sleep study done, it was during Covid and there was a big shortage of cpaps.
I had 281 apnea events. Apnea index of 33.1/hr. I have bad sinus issues.
My doctor moved me to the top of the list for the machine. Got mine in about 2 weeks.
