Find a ball field, start smacking grounders at him. 6-7 years old in my opinion and experience for private lessons is wasted money. Save it for ages 14-18. I've been there thinking private lessons would encourage and polish my son, and they did for a bit, but it waned pretty quick and became a burden to him, and not fun. Make him love the game, don't force him into workload that overwhelms. My son followed the stat, burnt out @ 15 years old.
