Need a new upstairs HVAC unit - here are the choices

$3,700 - $4,700 all for all material and equipment installed. Armstrong on the low end/Trane on the high end with Heil in the middle.

American Standard. Trane really is the best in the residential market (i've had good luck with Lennox and Daikin the RPU commercial market).

American Standard and trane are the same internal components, Trane benefits from the marketing and nicer external packaging. there is no legitimate reason to pay trane prices vs american standard.

Isnt there an a/c guy on the OT. Cant recall the poster's name, fairly regular though. Maybe I'm thinking of Napoleon with washer/dryer recs.

I've had good luck with Trane and Carrier, ive heard Armstrong makes a good product now but i doubt you get 25yrs outa your next one, like everything else not made like that use too

What about thermostat. I've been wanting a Nest - worth it ?

What do you want the Nest for? As in, what do you expect from the Nest?

I sell a ton of them, but usually, the what folks expect from the Nest can be done with a standard programmable thermo.

In other words, if you aren't going to take advantage of the WIFI aspect(which most people don't have the newness wears off), go programmable.

American Standard is tops in CR reliability survey for both AC and heat pumps. Trance is 2nd in AC and Bryant third. Swap places in heat pumps.

Neither of the other 2 make the list, which only means there weren’t enough responses to include them in the survey.

I have a Trane, had one on my last house and have been very satisfied.

the UI on a programmable thermostat typically is a fricking mess. I'm fairly tech savvy and most of them are just a fricking mess to program and deal with.

Nest seems easier because if I want it 72 I turn the dial to 72. Not flip from cold to heat or heat to cold press hold + program 1 while hopping on one foot then hit the arrow until it hits 72 then after I arrow up/down to 72 and it stays for a second then the display flips back to another number......well what the frick happened? Did I change the temperature or not?
