For the money and warranty, you’d be hard pressed to find a better carry on suitcase than Victorinox.

I rank them right in line with Tumi and Briggs and Riley but less expensive.

We have Hartmann, Briggs & Riley, Tumi, Victorinox and Delsey between me and my wife. We have built up a lot of options for short/long air and car travel as well as going back and forth between our houses. For hard-working airline travel, she would choose Hartmann and I would choose B&R. That said out of all of them I have a cheap Delsey Helium Breeze trolly tote (~$100 street) that is my favorite piece of luggage. It is like they made it for me and exactly what I want in a carryon. I love the padded computer sleeve that comes with it. I wish someone made one that would last forever but this one has ~10 hard years on it and outside of losing a zipper pull on an outside pocket (where it gets lots of abuse) it is still fine.

I suggest going to a luggage store and finding something that fits the way you travel, I would much rather buy something that fits me and replace it every few years than deal with something like Hartmann that last forever but forces me to pack differently than I prefer.

Private jets do not have suitcase restrictions.

We were going to get Rimowas, as they're so light and smooth. But the frequent flyer forums and whatnot are so divided, with like 10% of people being fully in the cult and the other 90% saying absolutely stay away.

I mean they have a full warranty and look like something from a bond movie. I do wonder if she can overpack it like she does her current bag but that’s on her or she can check instead.

If she bitches about it I’ll give her my replacement Tumi and use it myself haha.

Does she have the aluminum one? That's the only one I'd get but they do get banged up, supposedly. I really wanted one just because they're so nice to use, but after readying about 100 people try and justify the price to quality ratio and failing I decided to move on.

I don't fault your wife though, they look and operate awesomely. Apparently they're a major status symbol in Asia.

Orvis Buffalo American Grip Duffle.

Best carry on travel investment ever. My wife bought me mine a few years ago for my birthday and it never fails that someone in the airport will stop us and ask me about the bag.

It's heirloom quality and my Son has already asked that I leave it to him when I am gone. The more wear it gets the better it looks. Damn thing is practically indestructible.

Stacks nicely on top of your check back on rollers as well. Then sling it over your shoulder and head to your gate.

The wife bought herself the Orvis #1 grip and she even uses that thing to carry stuff to her office, she loves it so much. It's only slightly smaller with a little bit more brass and straps.

Getting older I've been thinking about switching over to the Orvis Weekender Carry On. It's smaller still and I pack lighter for most weekend flights. Lighter to carry is where I may be headed, especially in the summer. The old back is not what it used to be.

I had a set of Zero Halliburton for a while (have carried one of their briefcases for over 25 years) and my OCD couldn't handle it. It got scratched, dinged, dented and just looked like crap to me fairly quickly. I ended up giving it to our niece when she went to Europe after graduation. It just bugged me that every time I picked it up off the carrousel the first thing I did was look for the inevitable new damage.

If we were retired Rick Steves type travelers where practicality is always first and style doesn't matter, I'd love to have one with scars and all. But I'm the same, I need my stuff to work in business and nicer settings and it would annoy me to constantly be picking up dents and scuffs.

I have a Zero Halliburton and love it. The dents and scratches add character. It’s a unique looking bag in a sea of black rollers.

Briggs and Riley seem to be pretty tough bags

I love the look, the briefcase has become part of my identity and there are some things I appreciate wabi-sabi on but it broke my spirit on the luggage. It just couldn't make it through the period between new with a single dent to looking like it had seen millions of miles of travel across the globe. It is like a car or a watch to me, the first scratch is soul-shattering. The worn look doesn't bother me at all with leather or ballistic cloth.
