I get so paranoid with taxi clearances. I write it down then trace on foreflight plate. Then make sure to constantly keep the head on a swivel.

As you should be. Also look both ways before crossing the road. And if you’re ever unsure, just stop

Pilot at fault, but what the heck is the copilot doing? He can’t look out the windshield to his right and notice a big freaking plane coming in for a landing.

But some guys are more nonchalant about crossing when cleared.

I don't understand this. I mean, I look both ways before going when I've got a green light. Trust but verify.

On my first cross country solo I went to an airport with multiple taxi/runway crossings. I fricked up my readback instructions so badly and was thoroughly embarrassed on the ground frequency I vowed to never have that happen again.

I have my own shorthand that makes sense to me that I write on a post-it then read back and get my taxi and clearance callbacks perfect. Then load it in.

I take pride in it and have even gotten some compliments from some old head pilots I’ve flown with.

If the FO had bothered to look out the window he should have seen the landing lights on SWA. Nonchalant is a factor. I will be interested in total time and time in a jet.

It makes sense in my own mind, borderline mnemonic device.

Studying the diagram ahead of time, paying attention to other taxi clearances, basically anything I can do to anticipate my clearance and then know my shorthand corresponds to what I though and not something else that single letter or number I used could be confused for something else.

Like I said it makes sense in my head but probably out of control to someone else haha

So that private jet pilot will lose his credentials right?

Probably not. He’ll get a mark on his record which will make it harder for him to get hired at a new job in the future.
