That chart nails it. I was die hard as recently as 7 years ago. Then I started watching my team only.

It’s a boring product. It’s a 3 point contest every night. Sports typically make rule changes when things hit this point, but the NBA seems to be embracing it.

I wonder what the drop off was after BLM?

College football will be there soon enough.

Well they can’t blame the drop on me. I’ve not been watching NBA games for way longer than 12 years.

Celtics/Lakers was must watch TV when Bird and Magic played. There was everything. Fast breaks, great passing, solid inside and outside game on both sides. Actual defense was played. Unless it was a game winning shot you pretty much never saw any “look at me” celebration. Today, not so much.

Hard to overstate just how good and fun to watch the Celtics / Lakers rivalry was in the 80’s with Bird and Magic. Detroit’s “Bad Boys” with Laimbeer and Rodman, and Thomas running the floor, contended and won titles, along with Philly’s Dr J teams.

It was a different, more pure style of play than today’s 3 point or dunk style contest.

Today’s game in comparison is for me simply boring. Watch the last quarter and you’ve seen the entire game.

I haven’t watched an NBA game in at least 25 years.

Same. I watched it in the 80s and some of the 90s. I probably haven't watched a game since Shaq was a relatively young pro

Well for about a ten year period, before each season started you could guess the two finals teams with about an 85% probability.

Game has gotten worse, less entertaining and honestly the players have become completely too powerful.

They take games off whenever they feel like it or need a mental/physical health day.

Add in that LeBron has somewhat ruined the image of the league. He’s done the opposite of Jordan from an influence on the game point.

Magic, Bird and Jordan saved the NBA. Players moving all over the place has given people less reason to feel connected to them as it has become a players league vs team league. Thus, when the players are unlikeable, so goes the league.

I'm more interested in hearing from people who actually watch regular season NBA games frequently

Im a spurs fan so i enjoy following along how this young group is developing. I don’t watch every game but if they’re on national tv i watch. There are other fun teams to watch like the Pacers and Wolves for example.

Its certainly no less boring or relevant than regular season 162 game arse baseball.

I’ve never been able to get into the NBA. Even back in the 80s and 90s. And it’s not from a lack of trying. I love watching college basketball. I just can’t get interested the NBA.

Laimbeer may have the most punchable face in the history of sports.

Was it Barkley that took a shot at him back in the day?

so happy I got to experience the NBA when it was awesome. I remember Willis Reed hobbling on the court for game 7 in 1970. I watched all those hated Celtic teams win titles. Game 5 of 1976 titile series - triple OT between the Celts and Suns, Saw Abdul Jabbar and Wilt face off against each other. Saw the merger with the ABA and Dr J and the Iceman cometh. Watched Larry and Magic, Jordan, the two glorious back-to-back Rocket titles. I loved the NBA back then - it's unwatchable for me now.

I was in Phoenix during that series. Remember watching part of it from the hotel.

I had forgotten about Willis Reed till you said that. I can’t imagine anyone doing that today
