Wife (her pic here LINK) is making a sign for our neighbor.
Let’s say their name is Johnson.

Does the sign say Welcome to the Johnson’s house or Welcome to the Johnsons’ house?

I say the later.

And you're right about the sign.

If it is the house of the son of John, then
John’s son’s house.

Latter, but my guess is they would just be happy a sign was made in their honor.

If there was only 1 Johnson living in the house, the former would actually be the correct way to write it, but I assume there are multiple Johnsons, so it would be the latter.

ETA: ...but I am a proud Louisiana public school graduate, so I may be wrong.

Smart, particularly if you charge by the letter.

I'm choosing to believe that is a joke.

Probably, since he said Nazi Grammers instead of Grammar Nazis. You never know, though.

If we're being grammar Nazis, then it would be "If there were only 1 Johnson..."

Besides that, would be still be awkward phrasing to say "the Johnson's house" for a household of only 1 Johnson.
