I seen a similar one also. Maybe not exactly like this one but close enough that you can't tell the difference from afar.

Nah I'm not talking about the USS Alabama. But in that same Bay this summer I saw 3 ships that look very similar to the ship on the OP. Pretty sure they were zumwalt class Destroyers.
ETA: yes they were coming out of austal. What the hell were they if not Destroyers?

Since you still haven't comprehended... there is ONE Zumwalt destroyer that is completely built and it's the one in the OP that is leaving the yards for the first time ever.
It is impossible that you saw a single Zumwalt class destroyer in Mobile Bay much less 3 of them.

Austal makes the LCS
ETA - there are 3 LCS's commissioned as of now so that's probably what you saw.

So I guess the days of the 16" 50cal guns is gone for good.
Seems to me like there would still be a job for shore bombardment type guns. That thing can't tote enough missles to hammer a shoreline into submission.

Austal has a contract to build Independence Class Litoral Combat Ships. They are trimarans but the tops slope inwards, like the Zumwalt.

They're aluminum so they're not intended for any kind of direct combat role. I'm not sure what they're used for, but I'd imagine it's a fast supply boat for moving troops or supplies quickly.
