A female surgeon on the Northshore does this. She's pretty hot, BTW (no pics.) AFAIK the only training she had to do was an abbreviated version of OCS.
A relative of mine went the active duty route. They paid for his entire education. He did his 20 years, about half of which was in undergrad, med school, and postgrad training, and is in private practice now, completely debt free.

Should have looked into this before med school. One of my friends let the Air Force pay for med school and spent his first years as an MD living the good life in Germany.

If you're in the N.O. area NAS/JRB in Belle Chasse probably has slots available and you would be less likely to deploy if you are attached to base medical at a place like that. I was TAR(Training and Administration of Reservists) when I was active in the Navy. TAR is basically like AGR for the Army, but the Navy Reserve force is much smaller.

Not likely if you join, unless you stay in and re-up. If you're male more likely will be called up to a hospital or stationed with Marines somewhere.
Eta: I laugh because I remember thinking that exact thing before my commissioning.
