Navy Reserves as an MD

are there any doctors on here that are in the Navy Reserves (or any reserves for that matter)? I've always kinda wanted to do it. I'm just trying to find out more info in what all is involved. I'm pretty sure that this will not be a money making venture. I'd be doing it more for patriotic reasons and to interject some excitement into life.
Any of yall have any info/advice?

I don't know anything about reserves. The active duty doctors are officers (O-3 and above), they are given the same responsibility as a doctor in the real world with nowhere near as much training. Not sure how it would relate back to the real world finding a job.

Coworker of mine is in the Air Force Reserve as an MD.
From what I can tell it definitely isn't a money making venture in the short term. Loan repayment is available and the amount increases as you increase your service requirement. If you stay in for long enough you could qualify for some form of retirement and other benefits.
Duty requirements seem to be one weekend per month and then two one week periods throughout the year although the specific timing of these shifts seem to be flexible besides a few exceptions.

Medical Service Corps in the Army Reserve (AGR). What do you want to know? I can put you in touch with a lot of physicians in both the Army and Navy Reserve.

Do not do it thinking that you'll never get called up for active duty. I have a relative who enjoyed being a reserve physician up until the war broke out and his unit was called up.

Friend of mine did 20+ years in the Army reserve as a physician, he deployed for the Gulf War and Iraq,

Cant give specifics on Navy, but im in the guard. Definately dont do it for $. Incentives are nice but certainly not what makes it enjoyable. Hit me up at at my email and I can give you some details.

my biggest concern is how much time it will take away from my family. How did your physician friends deal with deployment?

Yep. I know a professional who was a reservist. Had his own office, but he got called up and sent overseas for a year. Had to close the office and start from scratch when he got back.

Army policy is ninety day deployments for physicians. We understand you have a practice at risk. Not entirely sure what the Navy policy is but I would have to believe it is very similar. Again, I can put you in touch with someone who can give you a real deal description of what they do. I do training for the DoD. Look up "Global Medic" and
