Dumb by municipalities to keep issuing permits for install if the infrastructure can’t handle it.

we have had a whole house propane generator for awhile. After Hurricane Ida we could not get the Propane company on the phone for a refill. They simply disappeared. And we were a regular customer. Luckily we got power back(3 days) before we ran out.
Note if you get into a bind and need a generator, check out the local equipment rental companies and get a 4000watt light tower. the generator should have a few plug outlets both 110 and 220. Just leave the lights off. They also run on diesel.

I know he is. I still want to correct obvious BS when he states it.

Was this not an issue after Ida? Why now?
To some extent it was. After Gustav in BR Highland road residents experienced the same thing. Believe their main lines were later upgraded.
A lot of New Orleans has had their mainlines upgraded to help with this.

Exactly. But they just want the fees collected from permits, they don’t care if you have A/C or not

How long does stored diesel last?
Posted on 9/14/24 at 11:40 am to ragincajun03
Why can't people just suffer for a few days like in the past. It builds character. It's as if nobody can be uncomfortable for a few hours, dang. 20k to avoid being uncomfortable for a few hours every 5 years seems ridiculous to me.

Ida ripped the panels and caused holes in the roof of an acquaintance of mine. He would have had no water damage if it had not been from the holes left by the panels being ripped off.

I've drained diesel out of equipment that was 10 years or more old and used it without issue. It will form a layer of water and crud on the bottom you have to drain off but the diesel itself is fine.
Just couldn't bring myself to throw out hundreds of gallons of diesel I recovered from old heavy equipment. I can't speak for the more modern diesel engines with electronic nannies but old school diesels will burn damn near anything for fuel
If you want to run diesel make sure to install your holding tank on a slight incline towards a drain valve. That way you can drain off condensation and crud every so often. I also make sure the pick up is a good ways off the bottom of the tank.

Gas load for a typical 2000 sq/ft house
Dryer - 35,000 BTU
Range - 65,000-100,000 BTU (all burners on)
Oven - 80,000 BTU
50 gal water heater - 50,000 BTU
Gas lamps (x2) - 8,000 BTU
Gas furnace - 75,000 - 100,000 BTU
22kW generac at full load - 301,000 BTU
Using the generator doubles the houses gas usage. And with diversity (not all the appliances on at once) the impact of a generator is way more then double what was designed by the local utilities
EDIT: when Ida hit and power was out, my gas stove had a weak flame and instead of full blue had a lot of yellow and orange (indicating bad fuel/air mix)
So u can tell there was gas issues. Luckily this past week we lost power for 30 min

We come off of the feeder line to the nearest city 21 miles away.
As a result, 30 homes have the same available flow as about 15000 homes.
According to our utility guys, unless we all start running a few hundred gen sets a piece, there is zero chance of flow drop.
