well if we can figure out a warp drive, we can send american baby's there now and breed them to be super humans, twice as strong and fast as the average human. Then send them back here to compete

If they could see the light reflected off this planet it would be about 1400 years old. But, if they had some sort of super telescope that could zoom in to the detail required to see people, I believe they'd be seeing us now.

At this moment in time the object for scientist is just to find some form of life in another place. It doesnt matter if its roach living in a bubbling caudron. Once they find a single living thing they have answered whether life exist in other places in space.
The chances of this planet having intelligent life is so slim, but its a much better chance to have some form of life.
