Jimmy Buffett affected more than any so far, but I'm not losing my mind over it. Just makes me sad when I hear a live show. Beyond his music, it was a lot more. His songs had back stories. He told the stories. Our brains are wired to associate his music with the places we love, like the beach, sailing, or just being happy to be alive. Nobody else has a connection like that in my brain.

Most actors and athletes might get a "dang" when it happens, but nobody I'd make a pilgrimage to say goodbye or shed a tear.

That’s a spot on assessment.

We were out on the boat not long after his passing and the music played. It was somber for a bit. In Key West, we passed his old house and it was a bit of a downer.

But the music dies for everyone.

For me, when Will Smith was murdered I was genuinely upset. Watched that man play for many years.
Matthew Perry, Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) and Bray Wyatt upset me as well.

My wife (no pics) cried when Robin Williams died.

Only celebs I can think of that I can think of that will upset me if they pass away at a relatively young age are Drew Brees, Jason Alexander, Shaq and Charles Barkley.

Robin Williams was the only one that really bothered me. He was an all-time favorite of mine. Just didn’t want to live in a world where Robin Williams killed himself.

He was the funniest man on the planet.

And no one has mentioned it, but Toby Keith. His death really got to me. I grew up listening to his music.and he was always a larger-than-life figure. To see cancer just eat him away was hard to see. He was an absolute legend.

Michael Jordan - grew up a Bulls fan in Chicagoland and was 8 when he made it to the NBA. Grew up in pure awe of his game and the pride he gave us as Chicagoans cannot be overstated.

Bourdain was a tough one to take. He was a perpetually curious man, an incredible writer, and, like me, an impressively sarcastic a-hole when he wanted to be.

Thom Yorke will definitely hurt and lead to a Radiohead-a-thon for a few days in the man cave.

David Attenborough. I love the nature shows he narrates and appears in, and I always wanted his job. Traveling the world, seeing incredible natural scenes and animals, and getting PAID for it? I’m in!

OTOH Steven Irwin genuinely loved animals , but his early demise was not surprising, …you can only do so much hot dogging before something goes wrong. It was bad damn luck that the sting ray stabbed him exactly in the heart, but I think he would have died young anyway, he took too many risks. Sad for his young family, but totally foreseeable.

Sir Paul McCartney; the Beatles really changed music forever.….and he seems like a genuinely nice person. Besides, I had a major crush on him as a young girl.

Maybe Shaq, another nice guy. Husband and I loved watching him play when he was just an overgrown kid at LSU. We went to lots of games in those years. Generosity is part of his nature, I love that.

It’s a shame I can’t think of anyone except entertainment related, sports and music, and they are just doing their jobs, some better than others, and some using their fame as a platform to do good. (Foundations, charity donations, sometimes just one-to-one generosity. And it’s best when they avoid politics) . I guess those are the ones in our view, and maybe there are deserving leaders in medicine, business, etc, that are under the radar…but worthy of being missed.

Certainly there is not a single politician, either side of the fence, that I actually think is in it for anything except personal gain/power. Altruism is passé in political circles. I would be "so, anyway" about hearing that news regarding ANY of our so called leaders.
