NAACP warns African Americans about traveling on American Airlines

The civil rights organization said it had no choice but to issue a warning after noticing a pattern of "disturbing incidents" involving the removal of black passengers from flights, in addition to other troublesome conduct.
quote:
One of the four listed incidents in the NAACP's statement involved an African-American passenger who was required to give up his purchased seats aboard a flight from Washington, D.C. to Raleigh due to the fact he responded to "disrespectful and discriminatory comments directed toward him by two unruly white passengers."
Another incident involved an African-American woman who was switched to the coach section at the ticket counter despite having previously booked first-class tickets for herself and a traveling companion. The woman's traveling companion, who was white, remained assigned to a first-class seat, according to NAACP's claims.

The NAACP said in a statement that the incidents seem to target African Americans.
"In light of these confrontations, we have today taken the action of issuing national advisory alerting travelers—especially African Americans—to exercise caution, in that booking and boarding flights on American Airlines could subject them disrespectful, discriminatory or unsafe conditions," The NAACP said in the statement. "This travel advisory is in effect beginning today, October 24, 2017, until further notice."
The NAACP said the incidents "suggest a corporate culture of racial insensitivity and possible racial bias on the part of American Airlines."

Perfect opportunity for the low cost airline, Spirit to take advantage of. A word of warning though to Spirit. Please be sure that you explicitly communicate that bags, even carry ons, are charged a fee. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

They should also warn them about traveling through New Orleans, Chicago, and Detroit
Oh wait

No video of these events? In today's day, especially after the United thing, I don't buy it without video.

I call bullshite on this being racially-driven. Will await what American Airlines has to say.

Can confirm, my cousin works there.
They're under very specific orders to disrespect black folks and kick any off the plane if they "forget their place". Strange policy, honestly.

Yes let Spirit continue to be the symbol of flying poor.
How about just act like a normal human being and don't cause a scene before or during your flight?
Is this really a fricking hard thing to do?

In other news, American Airlines stock is on the rise.

The full story of these incidents would be nice.

For some people, yes... yes it is hard to act civilized

Heard this on the radio this morning. Is there a list of active boycotts? It's got to be very long at this point.

Thousands of black passengers fly American Airlines every day. Four incidents (with each given the most "it was racist" interpretation possible) are not newsworthy.
I went into a car shop this morning and a black guy and I entered at the same time. They waited on him first. Can I shout discrimination? It was happenstance.
ETA: Sounds like they want a "only white people can get bumped" policy.

I don't know why people even fly spirit unless you're poor. I like to check a bag, have a drink, etc and I can do that with Southwest if I'm trying to save money. Spirit just sounds like a nightmare to me. I can barely take the open seating on Southwest.

With this "advisory", isn't the NAACP profiling American Airlines?
Sounds like the oppressed has become the oppressor.

They were probably scared of getting shot. Black people are scary.

This is why im glad I board first. I get to my seat and relax. Don't have to worry about a fatty in business class. I check my bags in so I don't have to fight for overhead.
I just don't get it I guess. Lots of low IQ folks in the world I guess.

Since "America" is racist, obviously "American" Airlines is racist. The NAACP might be on to something here.
